NICU in houston

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can recommend any good NICUs to work at in houston or of any that I should stay away from and why? Thanks. I currently do pedi home health and want to try applying again soon, hopefully with luck this time :/

Texas Children's Hospital in the Medical Center has a NICU, I believe a Level 3(most critical?). They also have a west campus that has been open for about 2 years. St. Joseph Medical Center in the downtown area also has a NICU (Level 3 as well). Texas Women's Hospital I believe has a lower level NICU and some Memorial Hermann's in the area have less critical NICU's as wel. Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital in the Medical Center I'm sure has a NICU also.

I'm pretty sure it is a very competetive application process to get into Texas Children's. I believe the TCH West campus hires a lot of travel nurses and then sometimes asks them to stay on full time. St. Joe's was independent but I believe they are nowing a part of Texas Children's Hospital system and have TCH MDs while staying a St. Joseph facility. Hopefully this will improve things at that facility.

Hope this gives you a starting point. I'm an ED nurse and not a pedi nurse, so my knowledge is mostly from transferring pt's out.

Specializes in NICU.

Hi OneDimpleDoll,

I was actually wondering the same thing...I mostly want to know about the places to stay away from lol! ;) I grew up in Houston, so I may have a little bit more info if you want to pm me. First of all, Houston is HUGE, so you either have to start your job search by where you live or start your home search by where you work. There are tons of outlying "level 3" NICUs in the suburbs, and I am personally curious about their individual pros/cons.

Did u ever find out about any of the nicu's in Houston?
