New Grad Question

  1. Hello,
I am wondering if new grads in the Fort Worth area can start in the NICU? I will graduate in May and I would love to start my nursing career as a NICU nurse. I have called a couple hospitals but haven't found one that gives a NICU internship yet. Thanks for your help.

Cannot honestly and completely answer for all hospitals. But, some speciality units of hospitals are willing to train new grads because they want them to have no other hospital experiences to "crowd" the brain before coming to their unit if that makes sense. Sort of like, since it's a specialty in and of itself and so limited, mind you, it is a valued specialty, don't mean to sound like I'm demeaning any specialty. I'm not.
It's just that they can train you the way they want you to learn their information/procedures/special skills, etc. and not be bogged down with prior conflicting info on say, med/surg. pts. on other floors of the hospital if that makes any sense at all...strange, but true.

I graduated in December 2005 with my ADN. One of my friends took an internship at Harris Methodist in downtown Fort Worth in the NICU.
    Good luck!

I work at Baylor Fort Worth and we don't have a NICU.

Baylor All Saints downtown most certainly does have an NICU.

I was directing that towards the internship question and now that I re-read it I see that I should have worded it different.
