Memorial Hermann

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I am looking to relocate to Texas in a few months, but not very familiar with the Houston area. Looking to get more information about Memorial Hermann (specifically Memorial City) : is it a good place to work and is it in a good area of town, traffic? How much is housing (1-2 bedroom apt)? How much do they offer for relocation assistance? Any other information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

As far as I know Hermann does not offer relocation assistance.

Memorial City is a very busy hospital and traffic in the area is horrible. Gessner and I-10 is a very busy intersection with the mall right next to it and the growth of the hospital too.

As far as the area, south of I-10 is pretty nice (and expensive) and north of I-10 is pretty bad (and cheaper). No idea off hand what rent is in the area.

Overall Memorial Hermann is a pretty good hospital system to work for. Pay is fair (not the highest, but pretty good) and benefits are OK.

Are you stuck on Memorial City? Hermann has several hospitals all over Houston (Katy, Sugarland, The Woodlands, Memorial City, TMC, Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast).

What is your specialty? Experience and education?

I have 9 months of ICU experience. BSN. The recruiter that contacted me offered an interview with the ICU at the memorial city location. They said starting pay is $26 for RN 1, $27 possible with my experience. They said relocation assistance is available but didn't say how much yet. I am concerned with the area itself, sounds like traffic is terrible and rent is high. The hospital looks large and nice from the outside. Thanks for the information, if you have anything else to add, I would appreciate it!

Hmm, did not know they offered relocation assistance.

Push to be hired as an RN II, I think it starts at $29. RN I starts at $25. RN II is usually for those with at least a years experience, but I know a few that had a little less and they got it. Having your BSN is a plus with that also.

I know many people live in Katy or Cypress and other surrounding areas and drive to Memorial City. it is a 15-20 mile drive, but some mornings it can take 45 minutes to an hour. Their are lots of options though, so don't let that put you off. I remember hearing one of the nurses that I work with now say there was a hospital carpool van that went from the Katy Park and Ride to Memorial City (not sure if they still do that though).

Where are you moving from?

I am moving from Nebraska, it will be a nice change. Also, I would be on night shift so traffic might not be as bad. I'll keep those areas in mind! Thanks again for the information.

Hi there! I actually live in that area of Houston, so I am a bit biased - LOL. MemCity area is great. The hospital is actually right across the street from one of the best malls in Houston. Lots of housing in a very wide range of price levels. It is in the Spring Branch school district... very highly rated. Quick commute to downtown, museum district, Galleria (if you like posh shopping), etc.

I would advise caution if you choose to live farther out on I-10 towards Katy. Even with the all the concrete available, that commute can be very hairy... tends to stack up very quickly in both the AM & PM. That 15 miles could take > an hour.

Your best bet would be to work with a local Apt locator or Realtor. They will be able to help you find exactly what you want.

HouTx, was wondering when you would show up :)

I got the job and will be moving to Houston in a few short weeks! :)

I'm thinking Camden Oak Crest or Creekstone apartments. I think both are in good areas and close to the hospital.

Well congrats!

I think that Memorial Hermann health care system does provide relocation assistance for nurses, when they are moving from different states. You wil need to ask your recruiter if it is available at the moment. Memorial health care system is a great place to work and they are focus on their patients and their employees. I heard people talking about other hospitals in Houston, and how great they are because of the good benefits and good rates that they offer. In my opinion Memorial Hermann hospitals should be considered as "Magnet" hospitals because they offer excellent benefits and excellent pay. They can be compared to The Methodist hospitals, Saint Luke's or Texas Children. Memorial Hermann hires the best nurses in the country.

Hello!!! I'm relocating to Houston Texas area soon, pending my TX license. Offered a position at TMC-Memorial Herman, looking at Pearland, TX for relocating. How's the area? Average rent? The traffic? I'm working nights too :) :) Appreciate any insights on suggestions on places to live. I don't mind being outside of Houston area at all. Let me know

Thanks , in advance :)
