lvn programs

U.S.A. Texas

Hello everyone! I've decided to go to LVN school (and later onto an LVN-RN bridge program).

I was looking into this school, North Texas Professional Institute, and I've met with the admissions officer and it sounds great for my situation (12 month program, and the entrance test is high school level). The only problem is that the tuition is around 15-17k. They do provide financial assistance (grants, loans).

There's also another school of the say type and I'm told it's 5k (I'll have personally look into it). I think it's Cisco. It's in Abilen. That's the problem. One, I've never been there and don't know what it's like (it looks so baren from google satellite) and it's about 3 hours away. I don't know if I can do that everyday with gas prices. I might as well cough up the 15k.

Any LVN/LPNs out there who went to these schools or other schools of the same type? I'm not interested in taking prereq classes for the programs at community colleges (like El Centro). It's too competitive for me and I can't really wait anymore.

Any suggestions? Advice?

I Currently Go To Ntpci And I Love It! With All The Hype Of Getting Into Nursing I Would Say Get In Somewhere Quick B4 You Can't At All. If U Like To Commute Then Go For The Cheaper School But Think About It You Will Still Have To Travel To Clinical Sites Too. You Also Have To Think About How Many Days Will You Be Commuting, Clinical Sites, Time For Studying And A Possible Part Time Job.

hi im starting at ntpci and im exicted is it a good program

Could you ask your cousin if the tuition for NTPCI is worth it? Can you actually pay back those loans within the first year of working? Well, I've got some research to do as well.

Also, the school in Abilene I was talking about IS NOT Cisco. It's North Texas Career Institute. It's not really in Abilene, but it's definitely a 3 hour drive for me.

so what lvn program did you attend

My husband graduated from Texas state tech college but the Waco site.I am almost 100% sure they have a LVN program there, So you may be able to go to Waco and take your LVN course and cut some time off your drive depending on where you live. it took him about 1 hour from where we live North Johnson County but 1.5 hour from Ft Worth taking 35 all the way. TSTC is much cheaper than the private LVN programs around here. The class that starts every 3 months is Concord in Arlington, I hear its a good program but expensive.

Ok, I wrote the wrong name for that school in Abiline. It's TEXAS STATE TECHNICAL COLLEGE. I haven't spoken to a representative from there yet but I looked at their website and it says "as of Sept. 2004" tuition is approx: 5.5K. I guess it's much cheaper but it's about 3 hours from me. Not sure. Sounds good though.

I've never been around the Abiline/Clearwater/Breckenridge area. What is it like?

There is a very nice LVN program at Hill College. They have campuses in Cleburne, Hillsboro, Grenrose, and Clifton.I attended the Cleburne Campus and loved it. They have a 100% NCLEX pass rate. You may obtain more info. on www.hillcollege.edu. They have recently introduced a bridge program, LVN to RN. All the best.

Do you mind if I ask you what were some of the tasks that you performed at the nursing home? My cousin said that is about the best place she has worked as an LVN and that is where she has made the most money. I am not totally against working at the nursing home, but I was really excited to work in labor and delivery or the nursery as an LVN, until I heard that LVN's don't get paid as much money at hospitals and that hospitals weren't really hiring LVN's anymore.

I went to a private school in Kerrville,Tx called Schreiner University, which is a 1 year program. That cost me around $10,000 for everything including books and other fees. They have one of the bests LVN programs in TX and our class had a 100% passing rate on the NCLEX-LVN. Alot of people apply here for this school and there is a waiting list, I got lucky at the last minute and someone dropped out and I got in.

Hi SAC101,

I am going to Hill in the fall. I had to switch colleges. Are they nice, lol, I mean, they don't eat there young, right? I have to fit in to the last semester of LVN and take Pedi along with it. Do you think that will be do-able? I have been shell-shocked from my last program. I kind of got kicked around at the other school. All I need is the same issues at a new school (not). They seem totally normal at Hill, infact they seem like people that are happy. I go to test for the math in a week and then a skills check off later on. They are "taking me in" from my ADN to their LVN. I plan to bridge from there. So glad you loved it. Any advice about the third semester LVN? I will be attending Hillsboro but still, should be similar.
