Lonestar Fall 2013 hopefuls

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi everyone!

I just submitted my application for the Fall 2013 Lonestar College basic track ADN program. LSC-Montgomery is my first choice, followed by LSC-North Harris, and LSC-Tomball.

I applied with an 11.81. Has anyone else out there applied, or are you preparing to apply?

Looking forward to starting a supportive and informative Lonestar thread, as applicants have the past few years

but didn't you say you only go 3 days a week?? I have to work to pay bills and i have a child so are you telling me you can't work unless its on a Saturday or Sunday?[/quote']

Not always just three days a week. We have "extra" stuff like extra clinicals, meetings, classes, sim labs, open labs, etc. They say they'll let you know about extra things a month in advance. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. One of the greatest lessons nursing school can teach you is patience and flexibility lol. Most everyone in my lass has kids...they just say to have a child care plan and a backup and a backup for your backup. Maybe half of the class works flexible jobs? Lots of PRN at hospitals, waitressing, babysitting, that kind of stuff. People definitely work some Thursday and Fridays, but my point was that if they need us there on other days or at other times, we have to be there. We do usually get notice though. There have been a couple "surprise, you have an extra clinical in a couple days!" But those are less frequent.

Good times.

So, on average how late will you say your on campus or in clinicals? Is it pass 6:30pm after childcare places close? If so, is this often or seldom? I don't have much back up but maybe I need to figure this in when I pick my provider.

I know Tomball, NH, and Moco are all the same

Oh, I wish I hadn't read this. I was hoping to escape the teal/white scrub combo, as it makes one stand out like an Easter egg. The scrub top might as well read, "CAUTION: student nurse who knows enough to be dangerous!"

But my guess is to make us that obvious at the clinical sites, oh well. I think after nursing school I'll plan a trip to the Big Island and sacrifice my scrubs to the Goddess Pélé in Kilauea.

OK, so after scratching my head for way too long about how to go about the background/fingerprinting process, I finally broke down and called the nursing dept. at Cyfair. I tried to make an online appt. at the nearest fingerprinting location, but then it asked me for an "Agency or ORI code"...this is where I was unable to continue setting the appointment. Anyways, I called the lady at the college to ask her for the "code", and she said they are still waiting to hear from the Board of Nursing, and we should receive another email soon with better instructions on how to do all that. So glad I called because it's been driving me crazy. lol Just wanted to let some of you others on here know that may have been confused as to what to do, too. Not sure if this is the case for just Cyfair or for all of the locations.

I've never, ever stayed anywhere past 5:00pm. T

so as of right now we don't have to start the background/fingerprinting process? because i got the same email from north harris. i guess until we get that email the only things we can do are the social security verification. it also says in my email to wait to do everything else (besides the ss verification and the background check) until orientation because they will give out important information about that then.

On NH 2013 admit link there is two forms that give you instructions on fingerprinting. The second one has the code and the form you need to take with you. My appointment is tomorrow.

My appointment is tomorrow too! I paid for my background check along with my social security verification to get it over with

Got my fingerprinting done in Conroe and it literally took about 5 minutes. I forgot to print the FAST pass to have signed and they even printed one for me

I'm here now! Waiting for my turn
