Hi. Has anyone went to one of the information sessions given by any of the Lone Star college campuses? If so, would you mind sharing the info given at the session? I have to work during the times that they are given and wanted to see if there was any valuable application information given there?

Also does anyone know if they have a certain number of applicants that all have the same number of points, how is one chosen for acceptance? Do they go then off of the GPA of the applicants or are they just chosen in line from the computer?

TIA, I appreciate any help greatly!

I am about to enter into my last semester at Cy Fair nursing school, but I just wanted to say it is highly unlikely there will be a lot of people with the same points. The HESI grades will be what distinguishes one from another. Also, I think you have to attend an information session in order to apply.

Thanks.

I believe Cy-fair is the only campus that requires you to attend and orientation though I could be wrong. Thanks for your help though. One semester to go, woohoo for you :yeah:

I am starting the ADN program at North Harris this Fall semester. I've had great intentions of going to an information session the past year and half but never actually went to one. I got all my information by using the search function on this forum, reading up all the information provided on each Lone Star campus nursing website, and talking with the nursing advisor (Ms. Porter) at North Harris.

North Harris usually has cut-off points around 10.9-11.1 depending on the students that apply for each Fall semester. Spring admissions at other Lone Star campuses usually have a cut-off at 11.2-11.4 I believe. It's just each campus admits around 30-50 students for the Spring compared to the 100 students that North Harris admits for the Fall.

Thanks so much Paul! I have been doing exactly that. This search on this website has been a tremendous help! This website has been a tremendous help! I wouldn't have even known about the North Harris campuses if it was not for this website! On Friday I just read all the info on all of their Nursing home pages, even for the new incoming class for Fall 2008 :D in hopes that will be me come January so that I can have a head start. Congrats to you by the way. I have read the thread where you have received your letter probably 20 times :chuckle

If you go to the Lone Star College Tomball website (tomball.lonestar.edu) you should be able to download a powerpoint "virtual" information session. That was the only way I got the info. Are you hoping to go to Kingwood or CyFair in Jan? I just dropped off my app. @ Kingwood today.:yeah:

Thanks, that's what I did. I viewed the virtual info session. I can't get past the app screen because their system has not updated with my evaluated transcripts. I'm trying to get into Kingwood. If you don't mind me asking, what was your total points? Woohoo, we could potentially be classmates come January! :yeah:

I have 11.4448 points. I'm guessing that I've got a decent shot at getting in. I suppose it all depends. It's going to be a killer wait, though. I'm probably going to drive my family crazy! Are you taking any classes this fall or just waiting to hear?

I'm guessing that you have an awesome shot of getting in. I did a search on past threads for the Spring semester and it seems that students have gotten in between 11.3 and 11.8; and between 10.96 and 11.7 for the Fall. Yes, I'm going to take Phil 1301 and Statistics to apply to a BSN program after I'm done with the ADN. I don't know my official points yet but will update as soon as I have turned in my application.

Are you applying for the day or evening program at Kingwood? Last year they got a grant to accept 30 days students so I'm wondering if it will be the same this Spring....

There isn't much in the information sessions available to the public that you won't find online. I'm a second year at Montgomery and can answer questions specific to my program if you need.

I would prefer days. My girls are 10, 7, and 4, so the older two are in school and the youngest attends preschool. My mother is an LVN who works Fri - Sun nights. She is available (what a gift) to take care of the girls while I'm at school. I have been home w/ the kids since the oldest was born and it has really been a financial struggle. I know my husband will be relieved of so much pressure and I'll be finishing the education I started when I graduated high school. I also want to transition to BS. How about you, days or nights?

Have you started/gotten your shots? I'm going to Montgomery tomorrow.
