U.S.A. Texas

Published

I applied to Lone Star - ADN program Spring 2012. I was accepted as an alternate. I am hoping to get a call from the nursing department saying there is a spot for me. If not I will be reapplying for the next application period for entrance to the program in the Fall 2012. Good luck everyone!!!!

I got accepted at Tomball! (: congrats and good luck everyone!

Congrats blondie12! See you at orientation!

mckelley44,

Congrats! Take notes when you go to orientation, there will be a bunch of homework you will have to complete before the first day of class. Also, for your textbooks, you should check out that little textbook place acorss the street on Barker Cypress next to the Sonic and Valero. Their book prices are extrememly fair and I sugguest you go sooner than latter so they do not run out of any of the books. Provided you have the money, you could go now without a booklist, the lady that owns the place used to be in the Nursing program at CyFair.

Congrats! I was considering Cyfair as my first choice because I have taken the majority of my core classes there, but for some reason I decided I wanted a change in the scereny. I love the Tomball HSB and the drive is the opposite direction of traffic. I am going to miss the Cyfair campus, but I enjoy the drive to Tomball, and who knows I might even move out that way when my lease is up.

@3prouommy I think on the website a declatory order could take around 3-6 months. But I think when I sent mine in last year for something it only took 2 months. I really all depends on what the case was, how long they need to review it and also how many other letters they have coming in. So try to get it done asap, cuz the program definitely will not accept you if you don't have that paperwork in hand.

Thanks for the advice Kalisefer, I will def go to see what the price range will be (& possibly purchase some if the price is not outragous)! I've heard a lot of people get their books from Amazon. I know you can get good deals, but I would have a panic attack if I happen to get the wrong book or have to wait until the last minute lol. I need to get my background check/ finger prints done!! How long did it take you to get your blue card?

I have a question about the fingerprinting...When I attempt to register (following the instructions that were in the letter I received) it is telling me that the fingerprinting service is $41.45 and the "personal review" is $24.95. These numbers differ from what the letter states which is why something seems off. My friend who is an LVN going into the transition program said that she already received her blue card but did not do anything to get it. What am I suppose to do!

Congrats to everyone who's gotten letters! We can cross off one more obstacle between us and being RNs off of our lists! Only 1,000 more to go! :-p

@blondie12 Your friend who is an LVN had to at one point have fingerprints done for the BON and therefore would be on record and that is why they already received their blue card.

As far as the price difference goes they could have increased the fee. The best advise I can give you is to call the BON and explain to them that you need to have your prints done for the nursing program you have been accepted to. They will be able to tell you if there has been a price increase.

@ 3prouommy Often times when one decides to pursue nursing school they attend an information session where the school thouroughly explains that if you have ever gone to court for anything that is when you should begin the Delcaratory Order. You are not the only one who has ever had to file one, I had to file one because my DL was suspended over 15 years ago for failure to appear in court for a traffic ticket. I filed the declaratory last summer and I want to say that it only took about 7 weeks. What this is telling you is you need to get on it NOW if you have not already. It is possible to have it complete by the time school begins at the end of July. You can do it!!!! First call the court clerk of the court where you had the issue and ask for them to send you a statement regarding the offense. When you receive the letter from the court, write a letter to the BON explaining your side of the story including you age at the time of the offense and send everything in with the $39 fee and application. (KEEP COPIES OF EVERYTHING YOU SEND IN) About 7-10 days after you send the Declaratory order to the BON you will need to go have your fingerprints done. When the BON received my Declaratory order they called and left a voicemail telling me to go have my prints scanned because they had received my paperwork and were going to begin processing it, this was only a few days after I had mailed it. After the BON has completed the review process for your Declaratory order they will send you a letter regarding their determination. Hopefully it is in your favor and you can take that letter to the school to show you have been cleared! You should then at some point receive a blue card, but don't freit if you don't receive one before the deadline. The letter from the BON will satisfy the school momentarily, and besides the school does verify your information with the BON.

Thank you guys.....i was a trouble maker as a teen so i have two court appearances. I have all my certified docs from the issue in vegas, but california is soooo far, and im not getting any help. But kalisefer, u just gave me hope. I thought it had to be completed right when you gave a letter of intent. I just knew i was toast!!!! I was young and have stayed out of trouble since then...

I will be turning in my letter of intent this week to Tomball along with all the required documentation they are requesting. I will have to get recertified for the CPR before 2013, but I have 7 1/2 months to get that complete!!! It feels good to have everything in order! Now the wait for orientation to see what we will need to study before classes begin and what textbooks to purchase, do we need to purchase scrubs for labs, if so what is acceptable, shoes - all white, stethoscope??? But before orientation, I need to get my hair cut, I have been putting it off for way too long. The list is going to be long and it is going to be expensive leading to deminished funds in my bank account. I already began pinching pennies, my fingertips are becoming sore, lol
