Lancaster Medical Center Closing

U.S.A. Texas

Published

What do you think about the recent closing of Lancaster Medical Center? 350 Employees affected and most of them didn't know until a few days of closing. Many ambulances are being re-routed to other hospitals and they move the others out. They cite no money as the reason. They are offering severance packages but I don't know to who or for how much. Many are devastated as what to do or where to go. I know that they are improving the nearby Charleston Hospital and they have Renaissance Hospital, but I feel this location was serving the growing populations of Lancaster as well as Desoto. You have to wonder was is the economy going to do next when you see hospitals closing. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/localnews/stories/DN-lanchosp_13met.ART.State.Edition1.4540f00.html without warning to the community. This is a crying shame.

It will make the things tight in the metroplex with so many nurses at one time needing job. Could also cause wages to stall if not start falling.

I am not surprised at this. With the cutbacks from CMS and so many without insurance it is probably only a matter of time before more hospitals fail. With so many for-profit facilities in DFW we may see more selling, shuffling, regrouping, and closing than we can imagine.

I don't necessarly agree. I've had a couple of doctors appointments up there and have never been satisfied with the service of the keep up of the facility. My mother also had to go there for a couple of appointments after she had foot surgery, she also had problems with service and the up keep of the hospital. My sister in high school goes there every week or so for her Health Careers class and she's also had relative comments. I feel sorry for those who lost their jobs but when you don't keep things together and in order and you let things run down your bound to get shut down that is just the reality.

i have to agree. although i feel for those who lost their jobs and for the immediate community, i wouldn't send my worst enemy to that hospital. both of my grandparents have been hospitalized and the care was not up to par. we had to transfer to another hospital and write a letter of complaint.

This has happened to two other hospitals in the DFW area since I graduated from nursing school in 1997. Unfortunately nurses had to scramble for jobs, but in the end everything settled back down. It actually helped increase the quality of care in other area hospitals.
