Hospital reputations andstarting salaries

  1. I am officially movingto the DFW area inthe late summer. As a new grad I will be looking into internships starting in September. I contacted Parkland Memorial and they seemed to have what I was looking for with very good (in my opinion) GN pay. That always makes me a little leary because here in St Louis, you would have to work 2 years before receiving thatpay. They also pay $6/hour weekend differential which is unheard of here. Please tell me anything you may know about their reputation to staff and pt care, and what the typical salary range for a GN is in this area.

call around to other hospitals and ask. Many of them will be more than willing to answer your questions over the phone.

I moved from St. Louis 4 years ago to this area. I love it here and doubled my salary. I worked at Barnes-Jewish and got experience that was second to none. That is what you will get with Parkland. Parkland is a nasty, smelly, infectious disease ridden place with a mostly Hispanic population, so I hope your Spanish is up to speed. What you need straight out of school is a teaching facility. You need to listen to rounds and pick residents brains. Parkland is the best. Once you have that, then I would think about a Northern hospital, ie. Plano. They much cleaner and nicer. Sorry I don't know of the pay range.

We've taken a similar path, only I left St. Lou for TX (before I became a RN)for good in 2000 (which my most recent part was Dallas). I worked next door to Parkland and loved my experience. The only reason I left was because as a travel RN I double my salary.
On an aside...it's been quite a start to the season. Incredible series against the Flubs. This offense seems to suffer from dissociative identity disorder--including Pujols :angryfire , while the starting pitching has been our strong point since the first couple weeks.

I dunno, Rolen leads the league in RBI's and w/o some steroid freak named Bonds, he would have the home run lead also. Pujols is having a slow start.
He'll come on though. I think traveling is out of the question if you are married w/ kids. I assume your workplace was Zale. Great for neuro. It's a shame they lost their open heart program to St. Paul. By the way, nice use of the DSM-IV.

Certainly not if they are in school. It's junny though, I'm complaining of Pujols having a rough start and still he is doing quite well. He raised his own bar to high perhaps. Well a split with the flubs . Great starting pitching wasted in those 2 losses.

Thanks for the advice! I am actually going to accept a job here for a few months before moving. I am hoping they will countthat as some experience when I move and factor that into my starting pay. i love neuro by the way and that is the floor I will be on here, so maybe I will take a look at Zale. Is their starting pay competitive with Parkland or not?

Well, since Texas isn' that big, you could rent a mule and try that way.
I was adopted, and I went to my agency to get the non-identifing info.
Then I went on the web. You really can find everything on the web,
you just have to know where to look.

Parkland, in my opinion, has the best internship around this area.

The pay rate for GN's at parkland is competitive and about the same as the rest of the hospitals in Dallas. 6$ weekend diff is not unusual at all in Dallas. Parkland is a great place to learn, it is the county hospital, once you have Parkland on your resume you can pretty much go anywhere, it's great experience.

I'm in Dallas and am interested in Parkland myself. What is the base salar for a GN at Parkland?

    Thanks!

Last I checked GN rate at Parkland was 18.50/hr with a $500 sign on bonus, and $1 extra for ICU.
