Help Please- I'm transferring :)

Hi Everyone and Happy New Year,

I am seriously considering moving from Illinois (we had 20" of snow by mid Dec. !), to Texas where the majority of my extended family lives. Also,my son will be attending Baylor in the fall. I have been a RN for 11yrs., and have worked primarily in procedural nursing-endoscopy, and interventional radiology,as well as, PACU and same day surgery. Would anyone give me their opinion on the difficulty in finding a job in either of these areas in either The Woodlands area or the Austin area. I am really open to any suggestions as I know nothing about nursing jobs there. Thanks for your help! Also, if anyone works in the area hospitals, would you make a suggestion as to the best hospitals to work for.

I'm a new RN so it may be different for people with more experience, but Austin is a pretty competitive market for the new nurses. That doesn't mean you won't get the job you want, because when I was a new grad I could only apply for a general GN position. They had lots of L&D positions available but were offerering none to new grads. I ended up going with an OBGYN office position and then accepted one in Med/Tele to get back into the hospital. I think if I was a more experience nurse here, however, I'd get the job I wanted in one of the hospitals here. SO it's worth a try. Seton is a great network.

My ex is from the Woodlands (love it there!) and his mom is a nurse but had gone into office nursing by the time I was with him, so I don't know what the hospital scene is there. I say try for both and see what kind of response you get!
