help! Home health pay in Dallas, is this normal??

I have worked for a rural HH company in the DFW area for three months now. This is my first HH job and only my second year of nursing as an LVN. I am doing approx. 30 to 40 visits a week and am getting 23.00 per visit plus a 2.00 per visit bonus to have my paperwork done in 24 hours. Here's my question...I am getting 20 cents per visit (not per mile) for each trip under 21 miles, if the trip is 21 miles or more, I get 5.00 for that trip one way. I average 120 miles per day, not including going to and from work. Is this a normal way of compensating for car usage? Also, so many trips are so far apart I find a lot of lost time in travel that I could be seeing patients. And lastly, would negotiating with management be considered "dangerous"? Any insight to this would be greatly appreciated. I really like the people I work with but am feeling I may be getting the short end of the stick. Thanks in advance!

My friend is looking for HH job recently. She is a 5-year experienced RN but she only has like a few months HH experience. She interviewed with GirXXng HH and they promised to pay her 65,000/yr. I don't know how they calculate the mileague stuff but she did negiotiate to a point that they will let her only work in a particular area that she doesn't have to drive too far.

I know there are a lot of HH looking for LVNs and RNs, Can you negiotiate with your boss to try to get you a better location? If I were you, I would not be afraid to negotiate with them because there are a lot of jobs out there! Good luck.

LittlePrettyNurse...check out the forum for home health nurses. They can give you more insight into "normal" practices. I worked in HH many years ago and we had an hourly rate and a per mile rate for mileage. The way that you are being paid for mileage doesn't sound reasonable to me but I haven't worked in HH in a long time. Good luck! :nurse:
