HCC Spring 2012-Houston Community College

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi Everyone,

I'll be applying for HCC Spring 2012. I was intending on taking my prerequisites in the Fall, but I've decided to knock out A&P II and Micro this summer to avoid any complications in the application process. I'm getting conflicting reports that prereqs have to be complete BEFORE the application is due, then others say that I'm allowed 1 course in progress. Not sure, so just to be on the safe side I've opted to register for both courses over the summer.

I hope this thread will bring together all the Houston Community College Spring 2012 applicants.

Goodluck Everyone:D

Can anyone tell me if verfication of vaccinations is enough, or is it a must that we get titers performed?? I'm confused. Please help.

Has anyone else other then MC93 received a letter of acceptance for the ADN program??

I heard they wouldn't be sent out until the week of thanksgiving break.

I got one. Letter inside was dated October 31, the postage was postmarked November 10, got it in the mail about a week later.

Did you take the pharmacology test on October 31 or took the pharmacology class at HCC??

Thanks for the quick response strawberrypinkheart

I got one also. I got mine over a week ago. It had a post card in it you had to send back to them so you might want to check on it. I think you only received the letter if you passed your math test, so as long as you passed that test I would call and check on it.

I passed the math test...hmmm I better start calling =(

Thanks allinknots for the heads up

When I went to get my titers done(because I don't have my records any longer) they said even if you have proof of vaccination you had to have titers, they said that was a new requirement but I would call or email the department and ask. I can't see them adding a new requirement until next enrollment period....but you never know:uhoh3: But I have been vaccinated and my titer levels were not high enough for MMR, so maybe they are just wanting to make sure everyone is fully vaccinated.

I'm in pharmacology now with HCC, took the math exam on November 1. So I just need to pass the last pharmacology exam... :uhoh3:

Hey Allinknots,

I called last week and spoke to Liliana, and she said that titers were not needed, but if we had them, that would be fine. That is crazy for them to "REQUEST" titers so late in the game. I guess we'll see how it goes during orientation. I'm gonna go ahead and get titers done anyway. You said that your titer levels were not enough for MMR....what do you mean by that? Is there a standard that HCCS goes by? I was vaccinated for the MMR back in 1983 or '85. I'm worried that my titer levels will be low too. Should I be concerned??

I hate this!!! Why can't a shot record be sufficient enough?!?!?!?!

Sorry CareAngel I just looked online today and saw this question....When I got my titers report back it shows what the health department considers enough antibodies to show immunity towards the disease. I had the vaccines done so long ago that my antibodies had depleted or it may have even been my mother didn't get all the shots required back then. My varicella titer was positive because I had chickenpox as an infant so I didn't have to do that over. I told the people at the vaccine place, the one that HCC gave us in our packet, it was crazy for them to be expecting titers now, after everyone is almost done with all the shot requirements. She made it sound like lack of enough antibodies was happening more and more, so they were going to start requiring the titers and if you showed positive good, if not you have to get re-vaccinated.

As long as Liliana told you your shot record were fine, I wouldn't worry about it. Just an FYI, I was vaccinated as a child and I am now 39. I thought once you got vaccinated for Mumps and Measles you were good for life...evidently not! But, as I said earlier, I didn't have the most diligent mother when it came to medical stuff so I could totally see her just forgetting about the 2nd round of Mumps and Measles.

I would gripe until the shot record was good enough if they say anything to you about it!!!!

Thanks for the tip Allinknots!! :)
