experienced RN salary

U.S.A. Texas

I am looking for a permanent position at a successful hospital in Houston Tx and am curious to know what is the average salary for a nurse with four years of experience and oncology. I am looking at base salary and differentials. THank you H.

Depends on the hospital and how good a negotiator you are.

Salary is hard to say, your probably looking at at least $32/hr with 4 yrs experience (and some higher), and if you have any certs in Oncology, probably $1-2/hr more.

Most hospitals pay a $4-5/hr night shift diff, weekend diffs are all over the place ($1-4/hr).

If your looking specifically at MDAnderson, pay is pretty good and they have excellent benefits (great retirement, good health insurance that after 10 yrs (I think) locks you in with them for life and annual bonuses of $1000-3000) due to it being a state funded facility.

Specializes in Critical Care, Education.

Agree with Nalon1 RN/EMT-P. If you're aiming to continue to work in oncology, you can't do any better than MD Anderson. In addition to the enormous main campus in the Texas Medical Center, they have multiple treatment centers in the Houston metro area. They are very selective - BSN only unless you have a hard-to-find skill set. OCN certification would also be very valuable.

MD Anderson has a very unique nursing culture that strongly supports career growth and continuing education. Their career ladder is used as a model throughout the industry & the employee benefit package is extraordinary. They have support structures in place for nursing that just aren't found anywhere else.

Nope, I don't work for MDA, but conducted some graduate research there & have many friends that are MDA'ers.

Yeah, I have a coworkers friend that works there and he can't say enough good about it.

He is working on his NP degree, being paid for by them. They do not require any time after you graduate, you can leave the day after you graduate with no repercussions.
