Does anyone know if you need to have work experience prior to endorsing your license to TX? From the BON website in TX it doesn't look like I would need to have any, but I want to make sure! Would greatly appreciate the help!

No, you do not need any work experience prior to obtaining a Texas nursing license by endorsement as long as you have passed NCLEX within the past two years.

@TheCommuter: Awesome! Thanks for the reply! Have you endorsed for a TX license before? If you did, how long did it take them to give you a TX license?

I've obtained licensure by endorsement in Texas twice. I endorsed my California LVN license into Texas in 2006, and later on, endorsed my Oklahoma RN license into Texas in 2010. Both times the entire process took five to six weeks from start to finish.

My SIL went from Massachusetts to Arizona with no experience when she obtained hers.

Experience isn't what the BON (any BON) cares about. If you have passed NCLEX in your state all you do is apply to the new state for licensure by reciprocity and do what they tell you to do (pay money, send transcripts, whatever). It has nothing whatsoever to do with experience.

If you don't have a license yet, there's no need to take it in the new state. Take NCLEX asap right now, wherever you are, and be done with it.
