Thanks so much. We had Ally from 2nd semester talk about SNA today. Are you in SNA and does it seem to be pretty good if you are? I would love any helpful tips you have. I'm starting a second career and have a six year old daughter at home that keeps me busy, so I'll need all the help I can get. I've read through some of the old posts, so I sort of feel like I know some of you already...lol. Thanks for your good wishes. I'm sure I'll be coming and asking all kinds of questions.

I am in SNA and I feel it's a really good group to be in. Our officers are all great and supportive.

You certainly have a lot on your plate! In my opinion, getting in is the hardest part and it's all smooth sailing from there.

One other silly question. Kanora mentioned during the orientation no acrylic nails. Any idea why? If they're short and unpolished, what's the problem? Is there some nursing rule about them? Just curious as I've had mine on for, well let's just say well over a decade. My cuticles get in horrible condition when I don't wear them as I'm a cuticle picker. It won't be pretty if I have to go without them.

    Kathy
I don't see anything wrong with them if they are short without polish?? I see nurses with them all of the time. I don't really know if anyone has them in my class but I will look next time!

Fake fingernails are a harbor for bacteria. That is why, along with the fact that they are easier to break/pop off when you are working with a patient.

Fingernails of any size can cut like a knife, especially when working with an elderly patient who may have paper-thin skin.

As far as Mrs. M, I have her now. I've actually had her at NLC for both 1119, and 1460. She is nice, but this was her first semester working for ECC...so she had to become oriented just like we did. Going to ECC will be a change for her, but at least she is familiar with all the 'rules and requirements' now.

We are at the VA, so going to Mesquite will be a change for her.

Thanks for the info. The only problem I have with not having acrylic on my nails is that I pick my cuticles to oblivion (I'm talking raw open sores on every finger) when I don't have them on. I'm glad she's nice. I really want to start first semester with a good experience. Have a great night!

Brianna- have you made your decision yet?
Well I talked to my instructor today about my situation.... her words were " I would not drop with an average of 79." So... I decided to stick it out. I'm going to need all the help I can get!!! Hopefully this will work out for me... again, thanks everybody for all of the support.

Just don't say anything, maybe noone will notice. LOL

Hopefully Mesquite Hosp. doesn't have a problem with them. Each hospital's rules are different.

    Sleep....what's that? lol

We have one more clinical, but I'm not really sure if we overdoing our hours or what. Oh well.....the more practice, the better.

I have my major careplan finished pretty much, but I have to go get more ink to print it out. lol So, I'll turn that in Wednesday when I go back to the campus for lecture.

Did y'all get up to two patients, or did you only have one the whole time?
