face -- I'm glad you posted. I thought I understood where you were coming from with knowing that someone cheated and being frustrated by that, but then with the other responses, I was wondering if I misunderstood

I think it is pretty clear from these ECC/NLC threads that the nurses (to be!) around here are very supportive of one another, willing to ask questions and look for answers. I'm not sure if I will ever meet any of them in person, but I'm not even in school yet and they have helped me out!

I am always here if you need my help.

I am a very understanding person but when I see cheating it just goes right through me. Especially when we're dealing with human lives.

Thanks for your clarification! I hope I didn't come across as too hard-nosed in my response! You show a lot of class with your post, and I too am available to ANYONE who might need answers/ideas about ECC nursing school!

How else were you supposed to perceive it when I hadn't set all of the facts straight ? Thank you for listening.

Thanks, I hope you're right, but I'm really starting to get get nervous. :sigh:

Here I am trying to memorize conversions & I feel like some a dumb bunny. .

Question/Clarificaiton:....Is the drug list you will be tested on for 2nd semester in the 1st semester clinical handbook, or only in the 2nd semester clinical handbook? Also, how long in the 2nd semester do you have to learn it? Is the pharm test at the beginning of 2nd semester, mid, or end?

Funnie- you will be so great at this program! This was meant for you. I have a friend approaching 4th semester and hasn't repeated one yet! She's maintained all As and Bs. You two remind me a lot of each other. Having the passion that you do is half the battle. You will be awesome!

If you take that math class at El Centro- you will be set! The teacher who teaches it loves to teach and she makes it so fun and interesting! Do you guys have that class available to you coming in the Fall? I strongly recommend it if it's being offered. That calculations book was very helpful and self explanatory as well.

We can go to ECC for the class, and yes I'm planning on going.

My aunt went through the ECC program years ago, and she said specifically, "Make sure you learn your conversions." So, I have my laminated flash cards that I made on a round loop hooked to my purse....so it goes everywhere with me so I can study them whenever.

That math test is about oral meds calculations and conversions. I didn't take the ECC class because I was out of country. I studied from the recommended book and I passed on the first try. I think there are two formulas you need to know and practice a lot. And good luck.

Sorry it took me so long to post this. I went to the info. session this morning but was there all day (seemed like) trying to get shots, etc. and then I went straight to work and didn't get off until after 1:00 am.

Okay here's the deal: Pharm and Patho are NOT required classes to get into the RN program. They are, like Jaxia stated, integrated into the program. They ARE after this current application period (for Spring 2007 class) ends doing away with the NET test and will be replacing it with another test. They will not decide until Oct. 15 what test the NET will be replaced with (my input: hopefully a test that has some A&P so people can't CHEAT on A&P and get in). They will also be applying after this application period ends for a CIRRICULUM change. They want to make HPRS 1204 a required course in the cirriculum. This HPRS 1204 is the "pilot program" class some are doing for Fall 2006. I know I heard Fun talking about it. It's something about you get to start skills early. She said that it will be an advantage to whoever does the "pilot program" that for those who do not do the pilot program. I THINK she also said that it wasn't being offered at NL first but it will be soon ???? Fun might know more about this.

Sunny, your friend CAN get in with CLEP Algebra UNLESS she / he also has CLEP Into. to Psych. They will only accept 1 CLEP for Prereqs. and they DO NOT accept CLEP English 101 at all but will accept AP English.

Hope this helps those out, like myself, that might have been confused on some stuff. So that means that I can stop freaking out and start breathing again.

    Fun,

I know what you mean. I seriously can't imagine what I would do if I failed out of this program. I can't see myself doing anything else besides being a nurse. It has been a long road and I am still not there yet but never have I decided there was something else I wanted to do. I didn't always know what I wanted to do so I didn't do anything (career wise - but always had a job). I just keep telling myself that I will make it, and that failure isn't an option. I keep telling myself that I have always found a way to do what I really wanted to do and this should be no different. My determination has gotten me this far, I hope it can take me on through the program. BUT, I do think this little group is a big help. We can help each other make it to the other side.

I believe it was mysterious_one (?) that is going to do the pilot program. I think it's a great idea.

I think the exam will be the HESI, or something like it. It requires that you know A&P. The problem will still remain true though, if you have to wait a year after the exam & class, you could still forget stuff.

With the curriculum changing to require HPRS 1204, do you get your CNA license?

Eitherway, I think it's a good idea. I'd take the class if it was offered at NLC.

When you say, that pharm and patho are intergrated into the program, does that mean we don't have to take them, and that those accepted for Spring '07 or Fall '07 would?

Thanks for your help, and I wish you the best of luck of second semester. I think now you know what to expect, and what is required of you. Not many people could do it and work too. Pat yourself on the back.

yes , it was me starting the pilotprogramm this june. It didn't say anything about getting cna license. I already got the books required for this class and the way i can tell, it is learning the basic nursingscills. I assume the advantage besides getting into the clinicals the second week of the fall progr, there should be not as much pressure in the first semester, scince this is out of the way. Also i noticed that everyone else that's not taking the pilot, has to go 4 days a week where as we only have to go 3 days, at least according to that sample schedule in our package. I am excited to start in June , but also a little freaked. New programms always have glitches and i just don't want it to effect us in any negative way.

Face - Thanks so much -- you just proved what I love about this place

Amy - yes! Thanks for posting! That helped a lot.

Fun - If I understood correctly, the two classes are just being spun off so people can take them earlier, and to cut down on separate classes needing additional instructors. And, it sounds like the changes will apply to the Fall 07 class. Whew, I hope I make it in under the wire!

    Have a great day!
