El Centro/North Lake Previous Student Input & Fall '13 Prospectives!

  1. 0
I did a quick search but I couldn't find a thread for people preparing for Fall 2013 nursing. I've been reading that Spring 2013 students are aiming for about a 23 on the new points system. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will have at least that with a transcript evaluation.
Anyway, I would LOVE to hear stories about how others are liking/liked the El Centro/NLC program. I am hearing mixed reviews
I've been reading a lot about the Magnet Hospital hype and how an ADN will not suffice to get a job soon after licensing (I plan on getting a job and having the hospital do tuition reimbursement for my UTA pathway program to BSN).
Any tips, advice, or just a hello would be appreciated!

Hi there! I'm preparing for Fall '13, hopefully through the Methodist El Centro partnership. I should end up with 25-27 points. I, too, have read some negative stuff about El Centro on here. I never hear negative stuff about Brookhaven, though. The new point system favors me and I like the hospital partnerships that EC has. I'd love to be able to do Baylor's fastbacc but with 2 young kids it's just too intense. I'll be doing the UTA pathway though for sure!!

    Thanks for the reply, RNNelson!
I was reading other boards too and saw that many others were applying to the Methodist partnership program, it sounds like a wonderful opportunity that I will look into! I honestly don't know HOW you do it with two kids...! The new point system for NLC/EL Centro also favors me as already have my bachelor's degree, but the negative comments are a little bit unsettling. May I ask what you've heard that has been the least positive for you? I'm afraid of the teachers and failing out of the classes once I actually get in :/ I know I'm getting ahead of myself as I'm not even applying until February, but still!!

Pretty much just disorganization issues. Heard good things about the NL campus and nothing negative about their partnership programs. Different strokes for different folks. It can't be that bad. We don't know who is on these forums...what type of people they are in "real life". I'm not concerned

Which forums are you seeing a lot of Methodist applicants?? I have a hard time finding people who have done it OR who are planning on doing it.

How guys I am also looking for applying to the el Centro ADN program through the hospital partnership. I am currently a volunteer at Methodist, trying to get my 100 hours in. I also applied for the TWU Spring of 2013 program and will hear back in November for that. I have heard only good things about the el Centro program. The hard to part is getting in after that anything is possible. And take this from someone who has been applying to the TWU BSN program for 2 years! Good luck to you guys!

Cool! Me also! I volunteer on Thursdays and I actually do enjoy it. Are you applying for fall 13? I just hate that ALL the support courses must be done in order to apply at Methodist. I wanted to take micro over the summer but now I'll have to take a&p2, micro and HPRS next semester

How many points will you have? I haven't taken the HESI yet but I've got 8 out of the 9 BSN points and hopefully I'll end up in the mid 20's total.

Awesome! Yes I am applying for fall 13. I have all but one of my bsn classes done I believe. I haven't taken the HESI yet either, all I need is to take hprs. I have A's in all but micro. I have also been applying to the TWU BSN program. :-) where will you be taking hprs? Maybe we will begin the same class.

I am actually in the Methodist/El Centro nursing program. Currently a S1. The program is great, our instructors are awesome, they really care about our well being. As far as El Centro is concerned, there is something that is always changing, so it makes it hard to prepare and plan ahead. But that is what nursing school is all about, flexibilty. Good Luck!
