Collin College Fall 2013 Nursing Applicant's

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I just finished taking my PSB and I've already submitted my application to Collin College for the Fall of 2013. This is my 3rd time applying and I'm really hoping I get in this time around. If I did well on the PSB I should have 15 out of 16 points, so I think I should have a pretty good chance of getting into the program. My question is has anyone heard anything about students being turned down for taking A&P I twice to improve their grade? I received a B the first time I took it, so I retook it this last semester and at the end of the semester my professor told my class if this was our 2nd time taking it then we might as well not even waste our time applying to Collin, because they will automatically throw away your application if you didn't get an A the first time you took it. Has anyone heard if this is true or not?

I hear there are usually 250 applicants. I applied...just waiting to hear! If any of y'all get your letter, let us know! I want the suspense to be over....good luck to all who applied! :)

The way I understood the admission process they first add up all the points. In the event of a tie-breaker, I think they first look at how many of the accessory classes you have taken - ENGL 1301, PSYC 2301, PSYC 2314, SOCI 1301 and HUMA 1301. Although these are listed as classes you take during the nursing program, they really want you to have finished them before your enter the nursing school. Someone who has a score of 15 points and has taken all five of the accessory classes will be accepted before someone who has 15 points but has only taken one or two of these classes. If there are still ties, they look at the number of retakes for a class. I think they are looking at changing the admission process to make it harder for those who have retaken classes.

Its driving me nuts waiting, and I'll probably get mine after everyone else since I just had an address change. I'm wondering if I ask them to hold mine so I can pick it up if they would do that.

I agree, I was good for the first month, now I'm extremely restless! The waiting is tough...

The reason there might have been less applicants this time around was that they required all the prerequisite classes to be completed before they would look at your application. In years past you could be enrolled in Microbiology for the Spring semester and just lose a point for not having finished the class. This year students enrolled in Microbiology for Spring 2013 would not be considered for the Fall 2013 nursing class.

Has anyone called the office recently? My friend called and they told her letters would be mailed at the end of the week. I called yesterday and they told me that the decisions had been made, but letters would not be mailed until Monday. Someone call today! :) hahah I'm not calling again! :)

@RPlatt This is not true. I just called and talked to the nursing department. The woman I talked to told me that you don't have to have Micro completed to be accepted. You just have to have it completed with a C or higher before beginning the nursing program.

Also, she said the letters would be mailed out either today or tomorrow!

OH MY! I can't stand this much longer! :) I am dying to find out. Good or bad, I just want to know! I'm super nervous as I only have 15 points because I only made a 5 on the PSB. I wonder if the mail has to be routed to Spring Creek campus before it actually gets mailed.

I got my information from Ms. Betty Brown at one of the nursing information meetings last semester. She specifically said that they had a new interim dean that changed their policy and that they were not accepting anyone who had not completed Microbiology prior to the application deadline. Maybe they changed their policy again since that information meeting, but that is what she told us. She said it was a new change in policy due to the new interim dean.

I really hope that is not the case because I'm in Micro right now! Maybe they decided not to make the change after all. None of the information online says anything about having to be done with Micro. I would think they would update the online info and inform their office staff if they were going to make a change like that.

Letters were mailed today!

Yay, thanks for the update!
