CNA training in DFW? Questions about classes at CTK and Dunbar.

U.S.A. Texas

Hey all,

I'm a pre-nursing student with a couple semesters of pre-reqs under my belt. I'm doing all my pre-reqs at TCC and am planning on my ADN at TCC as well.

In the meantime, I'm thinking of becoming a CNA so I can get some experience while I'm going to school (like so many who have trod before me!)

After a lot of research, I've found a few places relatively close to me (I'm on the north Fort Worth side of the map -- Grapevine, actually).

The first place I've found is CTK Healthcare in Irving. Does anybody have any experience with them?

The other I actually read about here on allnurses, and that's Dunbar Community School in Fort Worth. Both look like good programs... it just worries me that I can't find a program at any local hospitals... should it?

Lastly, I think TCC offers a Nurse Aide program, but they're not offering one anytime soon. I'm looking for something I can do over this summer and hopefully get on as a CNA this fall (maybe at Baylor Grapevine, or a dream come true at Children's Medical in Dallas.)

Thanks so much!! :D

Some of the local nursing homes in DFW offer free CNA training, and will even pay for your certification as a nurses' aide if you agree to work for the facility for a certain number of months. I know that Fort Worth Nursing & Rehab Center has a CNA training course starting very soon. Their telephone number is (817)336-2586.

I'll move this thread to the Texas Nurses forum for more replies.

I completed the CNA course that CTK in Irving offers :) It was a swift, 8 week course held in the mornings (8a-12p, I believe) and relatively simple.

I definitely suggest you go through them. I researched other schools and they just did not come up to par. This is going to be your best bet financially and time-wise.

I was wondering what you had decided to do about school? After reading MissKita's review of CTK I think I'll go there. They're not that expensive and convenient class schedules.
