CNA training in Fort Worth?? How's Gideon??

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Is anyone familiar with the CNA course through Gideon Services? Are they reputable? Does someone in Fort Worth offer a better CNA course? Guess, in short I want to know if they turn out good CNA's.

Does Tarrant County College have a CNA class? I've heard they do but only see their 2-year program. (someone at TCC is to call me back on this, but ...)

I found the DADS regulatory list of state approved certification courses and started calling only to find most places no longer offer training. One LTC referred me to Gideon, whom I'd already contacted.

I'm not looking for a short-cut, just a way to start somewhere. Currently, I teach math as a substitute. Since not working is out of the question, (just me & my empty nest here at home) working as an aide seems the best way to gain experience while completing the pre-reqs for a BSN.

TIA for all your help. Oh so many questions. (hope this doesn't count as a double post :uhoh21: , since I asked the same question in another thread, but didn't hear back yet, and I'm going to talk to them tomorrow)

It worries me that most schools suggest not working or at most working only 12 hrs/week while in school. Also worries me to pieces that 4.0's are wait-listed or turned away. Yikes!!

TxGirl, are you applying to the nursing program in January? I just wanted to say good luck. I am applying in January as well. Maybe we will get into the nursing program at the same time. What class are you taking in the spring at TCC? I am currently taking Chemistry and that will be the last of my science classes. Whoohoo! I also wanted to tell you that TCC has CPR classes if you need one. They are through the Continuing Education Department. I believe they are $50. Anyway, good luck with your CNA class. :)

Yes, I'm applying in January...I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'd really like to get in, in the Fall :) ...I wish you luck as well, that would be cool if we both got in...I will be taking Chemistry, and a couple online classes as well...Chem is the last science I need, so I'm hoping that won't hurt my chance on my application because I haven't already taken it but I've taken all my other sciences and done very well in them two A's and a B and almost all of my general education courses...How was the Chemistry class? Is it hard? I'm a bit apprehensive about it because I didn't do well in Chemistry in high school and I've not been able to grasp the concepts of Chem. If I can at least pull a B I'll be so happy, I'm hoping for an A. I did know about the CPR class at TCC but I haven't really looked into it because I was waiting to see what my schedule would be like, if I can get into the CNA classes I'm going to be a very busy girl this coming semester. :) ...Do you know when they will be giving the TEAS testing for the spring applicants?

I'm right there with you...I hope they save a spot for me too.

Does anyone know the admitting GPA of the last accepted students at TCC..

This is something I'm interested in knowing as well...any info would be great!

Hopefully, we will all be accepted. Don't they allow 100 into each class? If so, that is plenty of room for the handful of us. :chuckle TxGirl, Chemistry is not that bad. I didn't have it in high school, I suck at math, and I've been out of school for years. I am still doing good in there, though. Just pay attention to who you take for your class. I believe that any class can be made better or worse based on the professor you get. I don't think the class is easy at all, but my professor is really great about explaining things and helping you if you need it. I have also went to the science learning center for help when I've needed it. I think it is just hard for me because I've never had any kind of chemistry and because math is hard for me, so I really have to study a ton. It isn't as time consuming as Micro or A&P, however. Which campus are you going to for your prerequisites? Maybe others who have taken it can recommend a good professor at your campus. As for the TEAS, they only offer it during the application period at the testing center. I plan to call as soon as the semester starts in January to set an appointment to take it. I guess I will spend my break studying for it. Meanwhile, I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of us on here.

If it was just the handful of us on here that were applying in January we'd be good to go, it's all the other ones who aren't on here with us that worry me :chuckle ...I'm actually attending the Southeast campus, I only lack 15 hours of pre-req's and living in Arlington it was easier to go back to the Southeast campus, I was there before and transferred to UTA but decided to transfer back because of tuition reasons...I've got someone who said that they would tutor me if I needed it during the semester and I plan to utilize the science learning center...I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of us as well...I would love to be accepted the first time that would be awesome. :nuke: ...I knew they only offered it during the application period I just didn't know if maybe they had release some prospective dates for it, Yeah I had planned to do the same thing to call them at the beginning of the semester and find out when they were giving it so that I can make an appt. and I think i'm going to go get the study guide for it that they sell at the South Campus bookstore so I can study for it as well.

I can recommend a great chem teacher. I had him about 2 years ago and he is wonderful. I was chem-dumb prior to taking this class and I ended up with a mid B....Ill Pm the name if anyone is interested. You can then go on rate my professor and read my and everyone else's comments about what a great teacher he is....
