Children's Medical Center Dallas

U.S.A. Texas

Hello All,

I am currently approaching my FINAL semester of nursing school!! Wohooo! I have a huge interest in working at Children's Dallas as an RN. I have a passion for trauma and am interested in finding out what it takes to get on at Children's. I am currently a Nurse Extern at THR and have over a year of experience. I have my BLS CPR, PEARS and ACLS certifications. I plan on obtaining my PALS before the end of the year. I will be graduating from an ADN program and bridging over to a BSN program immediately following graduation. I am looking for information on what the best way to get on at Children's is and any additional qualifications they may require. Also, anyone who does work there, do you love working there? Any information would be extremely helpful!! Thanks!!:D

Specializes in Critical Care; Cardiac; Professional Development.

They had an externship over the summer and that is the primary foot in the door. They will open up their internships (to start in January) in late September/early October from what I understand with interviews being done in October/November timeframe. Having worked there as a tech or an extern gives a leg up - they pull from those they know first.

Good luck!

Darn it!! I missed the Summer Internship. I will keep an eye out for the September/October one. Thanks for the information! I will keep my fingers crossed for sure. Thanks again:)

I work at Children's in Dallas and yes, I LOVE it!! It is a great place to work as a nurse. Very competitive, which is good if you get in because you will be working with other excellent nurses. Check daily for new job openings that you qualify for. You can search for "graduate nurse" on the career page. Or google and then contact one of our recruiters, that may be a good place to start. In the non-ICU/ER areas, PALS is not required, just PEARS. If you have a specific question, PM me, I might be able to answer, as I started at Children's as a new grad too and went through the orientation and everything. :) Good luck!

Tammy,

Thank you for the great info!! I have heard wonderful things about Children's!! It sounds like an amazing place to work! I will continue to look online for openings for graduate nurses. I may take you up on the PM once I get closer to graduation or if I hear anything back from any applications. Thanks again!! :)

I just wanted to say from a family's point of view that Children's is wonderful! The staff is great and we couldn't have been treated any better! Good luck getting on there!

I agree!! It is an awesome hospital!! :)

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.
I will be graduating from an ADN program and bridging over to a BSN program immediately following graduation.
Children's Medical Center is owned by HCA, and the vast majority of the HCA hospitals in the DFW area have made the BSN a requirement for eligibility for their new grad internships.

Thanks for the info!

I am afraid you are right. :( I am bridging over after graduation in December so I will have to just wait until I graduate with my BSN. I will just have to try and get as much experience under my belt in the meantime.

Anyone know if this RN internship application has already passed? I have been checking their website regularly, but maybe I already missed the window to apply.

I don't think they have posted them yet, but there is a rumor going around (from classmates who work there now as techs) that they are potentially not going to have internships this time around. I'm not looking for pediatrics myself, but will have a lot of disappointed classmates if they don't.

Good to know, thank you! I'll just keep checking and see.
