U.S.A. Texas

Hi guys!!

I would GREATLY appreciate any feedback regarding this. I am currently working in the Med Center located in downtown Houston for a private practice. I have 2 year experience and have am a RN with a BSN degree and I am also certified in BLS and ACLS. Unfotunately I really do not have much of an idea what the average pay for a newer nurse is and also in my area. I really need yalls help! I have been told by a few that I am under paid but I definitely do not want to request for an increase if I will just sound greedy! I would appreciate ANY feedback regarding hourly pay for nurses in my area, whether they work in a hospital or private practice. I am currently paid 23 hours a week and typically work 40 hour weeks. I would greatly appreciate any help!!! Thank you!!

I am currently paid 23 hours a week and typically work 40 hour weeks.

So your paid $23/hour and work 40 hrs a week? Do you have medical benefits and retirement?

Private practice does not always pay as much as a large facility/hospital, so not an apples to apples comparison.

I know most hospitals in the med center start new grads at $25-28/hr. With 2 years experience, you would be in the $30-34/hr range.

Again this is in a med center hospital and usually 36-38 hrs a week. You also need to compare benefits and retirement.

Private practice I have no idea.

Hello, I am moving to Texas soon and I was wondering if anybody could recommend some nice scenic and safe towns to live and work in. Any location really, I am just trying to find the best place for my fiance and I to work/live. We have always dreamed of living in Texas and we are finally going to make the move, but the question is where? We have been looking at cities down by Houston near clear lake and league city. Is this a good area? We are not even sure if we are looking in the right spot. Perhaps Dallas area? I heard that is nice too. I am in the process of transferring my nursing license now, so as soon as that goes through we would like to start moving. My fiance has a criminal justice degree but is not having any luck with that here in Illinois. He will be looking for something along those lines in Texas. He is also interested in getting into the oil industry at an entry level position. any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank You! :-)

I do not receive any aid for retirement with this job. I do receive free parking and also Medical Insurance (no dental insurance). I also must be BLS and ACLS certified for my position, in which my company does not pay for my recertification. I am starting to really wonder I am not in a very good spot:barf02:

Specializes in Critical Care, Education.

There is a huge difference in salary levels between acute care and a physician office/clinic. OP needs to compare salary with comparable jobs in other ambulatory care settings.

Thanks for your help! I work in a physicians office where we perform out patient surgery 3 days a week and I provide care for the post-op, follow up, and new patients the other 2 days. I am just having a really hard time tracking down salaries for other nurses with comparable positions
