Austin Community College - ACC - Spring '12 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Heyyyy everyone! There isn't a thread yet for the Spring '12 hopefuls, so I thought I'd start one :clown:

I just finished Microbiology, College Algebra and 4 of my 5 coreq's, and all I have left is Physiology, Pharmacology and Human Growth & Development to take in the Spring '11. Woohoo! I'm so excited. Anyone else out there applying for that semester? :D

P.S. Haha! I don't know why, but the title inserted a sad face in it. It was supposed to be a little pig :smackingf haha!

Thanks RADIATIONRN2BE!

I will definitely ask the nursing department.

How's nursing school so far? I'm considering doing the hybrid program as well but I still have lots of time to decide.

I'm wishing you the Best of Luck this semester...and all of the semesters in nursing school!

It's going good. Definitely stressful. Like it has been said on here before, it isn't super hard material, it is just A LOT of it. We had our first clinical day today which was just an orientation to the hospital so it went quickly. Hybrid is awesome!! The instructors are excellent and really are there to help you succeed. Since beginning classes last week I have spent about 4 hours a night studying and reviewing the material and watching the videos on the ADN website. We have our first mastery checkoff over physical assessment tomorrow afternoon. It is hard to believe I am finally a nursing student after spending the last two years doing pre and co-reqs. I never thought this day would come. If ya'll have any questions I can do my best to help out. I remember turning to this forum when I was starting pre-reqs and I always appreciated any info from someone who actually went through the program.

I am also down to my last year of co's and pre's. I never thought this day would come that I could say, "At the end of this year I will apply to nursing school." It been a long road. This year will definitely be the toughest. I am taking Microbiology with my elective this term and in the fall will take Pharmacology and Physiology. I got my CNA last summer and have an interview at St. David's next friday for a CNA position. I really hope I get it. I hear the best nurses are those who started from the bottom up. I want ever advantage I can get before entering nursing school.

I wish everyone the best..... Keep moving forward and never give up :)

Hi Nicolet3271,

can you tell me where you had you CNA licences done? Is it expensive and how long does it take?

Thank you so much!!!! :nurse:

I did it through ACC. They have a great program. It took me 10 days....7 days in class 3 days of clinical's. Yup tomorrow is the best INTERVIEW day. I really hope she likes me enough to hire me.

Hello all, I'm hoping that one of you out there has taken our favorite Micro teacher at ACC Cypress Creek and have some of his old tests - he said he did not mind us using old test for study. I think this would help me alot.

If you do - please email me and let me know how I can arrange pick up. Any help in the bea-man class would be great.

Thanks!

Anna,

Thanks for your email. I've tried emailing you but the email address I have does not work. I would love to meet up with you at school. When do you have micro? Please email me again.

Thanks!

Shelly

Good luck to everyone as we turn in our applications. I am applying for the Spring '12 as well. I am taking Pharm and Physiology this semester. This summer I am going to "clean up" some grades I got with my first degree to give more points towards the application.

Does anyone know what a realistic number is to get in. I've heard 51 is almost a guarantee and others say you are safe at 45+. Has anyone heard any evidence to support/contradict these numbers? Also, when do letters typically go out?

Thanks. Hope to meet you all soon... on the othe side.

When I went to the nursing info session last november, ACC's Nursing Admissions Specialist stated that the past few years the minimum cutoff was at 52. However, after reading some of the most recent threads in regards to the ADN cutoff score it seems like there are a lot of re-applicants so the cutoff score may be higher. I'm attending another nursing info session, which is today, so I'll be sure to ask that question again.

As for acceptance letters, I'm not sure when those come out....but I'm pretty sure the ADN homepage will let us know when they send the letters. Oh, and make sure your ACC email is set up and that your current address is on file with admissions.

Best of luck to you and I'm sure we will all meet very soon!

Thanks Anna. I'm right in that 51-53 range (assuming A's this and next semester), so just trying to get a grip on what my realites really are.

I'm in the same boat assuming I'll get a 10 on the HESI.

Hey everyone! I just got back from a nursing info session and thought that the following info may be useful for us all.

-There are around 350-400 applicants.

-They expect to accept 150 students, saving 10% of those spots for re-applicants.

-Cutoff score is usually 52-53.

-The top 200 receive permission to register for RNSG 1105 Nursing Skills I; however, this does not always mean you are accepted to the ADN program. They select 200 students since they know there will be deferrals and those who do not pass the background check so they want enough students to choose from to fill the 150 spots.

-You are not allowed to take the HESI until ALL pre-reqs are completed (they've done away with taking the HESI 6 weeks out from completion of last pre-req)

-There is also a penalty if you do not show up for the HESI WITHOUT notification- penalty is a 6 month wait to apply.

-Also they said that they usually try to get the ranking in by the third week after the deadline for applications.

Hope that helps.

-Cutoff score is usually 52-53.

Annabanz,

thank you posting it.

As far as the cut off, if what they say is true why do I hear so many people worried about getting all A's? From what I am getting it's almost like you have to have 4.0 GPA to get in. and even when you get all A's you are not guaranteed to have a spot because there are so many reapplicants.
