Austin Community College - ACC - Spring '12 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Texas

Heyyyy everyone! There isn't a thread yet for the Spring '12 hopefuls, so I thought I'd start one :clown:

I just finished Microbiology, College Algebra and 4 of my 5 coreq's, and all I have left is Physiology, Pharmacology and Human Growth & Development to take in the Spring '11. Woohoo! I'm so excited. Anyone else out there applying for that semester? :D

P.S. Haha! I don't know why, but the title inserted a sad face in it. It was supposed to be a little pig :smackingf haha!

Hi everyone,

I just got done this semester with all 10 classes (co- and pre- requisites). I took microbiology, physiology, pharmacology, and human development together at 2 seperate schools. I am proud to say all classes were completed with no grade lower than a "B." I am taking my HESI exam next month. I just recently changed my major to RN after moving to Austin, TX. I'm a hopeful for either fall 2011 or spring 2012. The way I view the nursing application process is like waiting in line for checkout at a grocery store. We'll all get our chance if we stay patient. LOL. Meaning it's not a matter of if you will get in, but more a matter of when you will start the program. Has anyone already taken the HESI? I know they had an early testing date of November for fall 2011 applicants.

Hey There Hope34!

Wow...you must be so glad that you're done with all the pre-reqs and co-reqs.

At least I know one person who took micro, physiology, pharmacology and human growth & development all at once. Now I'm a bit more confident going into the spring semester with exactly the same course load as you with the exception of me taking english comp 1.

I've been asking people on this site as well as in my classes about the HESI and for the most part a lot have said that it was easier than expected. I attended a nursing info session in November and we were told the only sections that we would be graded on is A&P, Math, and Reading Comprehension, but there are six sections to the test to complete (the other 3 sections won't count against us). I heard the HESI review book that ACC recommends on their nursing website helps a lot with the math section but I haven't heard too much about the it being helpful with the other sections.

Best of luck with the HESI and your application!

Thanks annbananz!I actually have updated information about the HESI content via an email from the nursing office. Below is a copy of the email I received in regards to the HESI changes. Also, you will be fine taking those classes at once. Just stay focused, organized, and motivated. Dear Student, There have been some changes in the testing timeframe for the HESI beginning in January. The sections have been revised to only encompass what is required for the ACC program therefore the time has also been adjusted. The time will be 3 hours to complete the test as of 1/14/11.This is still sufficient time to complete the test. Sincerely, ACC Nursing

Hey guys! I'm not quite as far along as you guys.......I'll be doing micro this semester and was wondering if any of you have had Rodney Rohde? I was wondering what I could expect.

Thanks and GOOD LUCK to you all!!!

I am in my last semester of pre-req courses so does anyone know when I should take the HESI? Also, do I go ahead and get my immunizations taken care of? I am just confussed on what time frame everything has to fall into. Thanks!

i totally agree with your logic. i used to panic when i realized how long it would take me to finally be an rn, and worried so much about when i'd get in. i've lived with the 'rents now for almost a year after i had a change of heart about what i wanted to do with my life, and i wanted so badly to be able to afford even a crappy little apartment, and i dreamed of my future rn salary... but i just got my cna (certified nurse aide) training finished and will be able to support myself soon, and get my own place! hooray! :yeah: now i realize it really isn't a race, and one really shouldn't be too worried if they don't get in the first time they apply. the fact that everyone gets in eventually is pretty cool! :smokin: (why is this little dude smoking? hah)

hey lacy!

if you want to see what your prof is like, go to http://www.ratemyprofessor.com.

enter your professor's last name, and find them from the list! :clown: i also like to read through all the reviews and take notes on how the person grades, how they lecture, attendance policy, etc.

i always plan my class schedule based on this website, and i've had nothing but really awesome profs ;)

hey there, it's recommended you start the process of getting your immunizations 6 months before you plan on applying, and you can take the hesi within the last six weeks of the semester, i believe. :nurse:

You can take the HESI 6 weeks before the semester ends. Also, you need to go ahead and start your immunization NOW. Hep B takes 6 months to complete. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much! I will go ahead and get started on the immunizations since the Hep B takes 6 months. Once we apply for the nursing program, I hope they have people to help us through the next steps so we know what to expect.

Yup...Hep B takes a while. I started last Nov so my last set should be in May...just in time for the application window.

ratemyprofessor.com is an AWESOME website. I too use that when planning my classes. So far it seems to work out. I'm loving my profs this semester...they make the course seem so easy...but then again we are in the 2nd week of the semester so I guess I'll see how it goes.

Does anyone know if we can register for the HESI now?...I know you can take it 6 weeks before the semester ends when completing your pre-reqs. I just didn't want the date and location that I wanted to be full.

Wishing everyone the best of luck this semester! :D

You can email and ask. That is what I did. I was taking my last pre-req, physiology, in fall 2009 and the last HESI date of that year was December 18th. I emailed in October and stated my situation and that I was in my last pre-req and wanted to turn in my nursing app as soon as the app period opened and they let me sign up for it.

Thanks RADIATIONRN2BE!

I will definitely ask the nursing department.

How's nursing school so far? I'm considering doing the hybrid program as well but I still have lots of time to decide.

I'm wishing you the Best of Luck this semester...and all of the semesters in nursing school!
