I'm glad this is novel to all of y'all - enough so to point it out in the Texas forum.

But, maybe you didn't know - but Juneteenth has been celebrated in Texas at least as long as I can remember. It is about the equiv celebration as Cinco de Mayo.

You aren't pointing out anything new or novel to those of us in Texas.

So, for all you non-Texans so enthralled: Happy Juneteenth!

I grew up in Oklahoma and moved to Texas in 1998. Never heard of Juneteenth until I was south of the Red River.

I mean...yes, I was aware that there was a 19th of June every year...but didn't realize its significance! ;)

Learned about Juneteenth in Oklahoma, public school fifth grade history.

I think it is a shame that we didn't learn about Oklahoma's son Woody Guthrie in school.

My relatives in Amarillo and Fort Worth tease that people in Oklahoma are so dumb we think Mac & cheese is a vegetable. A joke.

Seriously I prefer what are labeled "Texas greens" here in California. BIG delicious mustard greens.
