Working during transition program?

by General E. Speaking, RN Premium Member

Hey there, I am completing my pre-requisite's at HCCS for my ADN. I am planning to attend North Harris College- maybe tomball transitional program? I still have sociology, speech, fine art, PE and their pharmacology left to take. I work full-time as an LVN on a Med-Surg floor and have been taking 2 classes a semester.

I have my financial aid/loans set up for the Spring at HCCS and was planning to take sociology and speech next semester but I read that you can be admitted to the Tomball program if you haven't completed sociology, speech, PE and fine art but I need my check to pay the mortgage! I don't want to overload myself trying to keep up my studies for the nursing classes while struggling to complete my pre-req's (and work- at least part-time) My question is how many hours a week do you actually go to class/clinicals for the transitional program? (not including finishing pre-req's)

The brochure says you shouldn't work more than 20 hrs/wk. I have a supportive husband but I make more money than he does. I'm nervous about dropping to part-time status but think we will be able to struggle through. If I can work full-time and keep my grades up- I will do it. Any answers to my questions will be appreciated!

The North Harris CoLlege system of which Tomball is a part requires completion of all pre reqs (including Pharmacology) before entry into the transition program.
Thanks

hmmm, maybe I'm looking at an old publication because I read on the internet where you don't. It says you have to complete those classes BEFORE you get your degree not necessarily before being admitted. I understand you must complete the pharm beforehand
