Working before you get your GN

Can anyone tell me if you are able to find a job before you actually get your GN? How long is the wait for your GN after you graduate?
I have already sent in my application for lic.,and paid my money to Pearson Vue (on Tuesday). I guess I'm just trying to figure out if you will be unemployed until your GN comes in the mail.

GN? As in graduated nurse?

Many nursing students get jobs as patient techs until they graduate, and pass the NCLEX. Then, work as an RN after receiving their license.
