What is the trick to getting hired in DFW??

Good grief!! I know for a fact that area hospitals are in desperate need of PCT's/Nurse Externs but can I get a call back? NOOOOOO. I've heard that you have to know someone. Well, I know a few people but I'm early in the networking stages at the hospitals. I'm going into my second year of nursing school and I've got the skills, I just need a job. Any advice? Thanks!!

Katy

Call the individual units you are interested in working - ask to speak to the unit manager (or at least their voice mail) and let them know you are a student who is interested in a position there, also let them know that you have placed an application with HR so it is available for them to look at, but ask the UM if you can fax him or her a resume directly. If you can't get the UM on the line or get their VM - ask for the units fax number and then just fax a resume with a nice cover letter anyway. If there is an opening, someone will hand it to the UM.
