What is the diff. in RN and BSN salary?

Hi all, I'm currently taking my pre-reqs at a community college, but I've been getting a lot of infos on the base salary. I heard that RN and BSN start off the same, why is that? Do they start off the same? How much do they start off in Houston? I thought the one with higher education will get more, am I wrong? Should I just stop taking all these courses and just appply for the 2 yrs program instead 3-4 yrs? Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Both graduate with RN's, take the same NCLEX, and basically get similar educations in bedside nursing, so for the most part they start out the same.

Why get a BSN then? Well for moving beyond the bedside in teaching, research, management, drug reps, insurance companies, etc. etc. these are positions that are BSN preferred or BSN manadatory.

If you're going to the BSN, keep going for the BSN. You might find yourself like me 47 years old and wish I had it now.

I can't speak for the salaries in Texas however. Here BSN grads get about .75/hour more to start. But you can't just look at starting salaries.

Note that BSN vs. ADN has been discussed extensively hear and the mods don't allow further discussion. So do a search and see what comes up. However, if you stick to just asking about salaries that should be o.k.
Good luck.

Depends on the facility, but some do value education more and will pay more for BSN nurses. Look at it this way - time will pass anyway. You might as well be working towards a goal and have more options for your future.
