Weatherford College??

Yeah I had heard that the director caused some problems which was my concern. But I had never heard anything else about Weatherford after that happened so I was just wondering. I actually live close to Lewisville and have considered applying to NCTC's RN ADN program but I was told there's at least a year's wait already. I haven't heard too good things about the LVN program since they push for RNs. But I would do the RN program. I just think it is easier to just do the ADN RN program because there are not that many LVN to RN programs left in Texas. I guess I am just nervous because if I got accepted I would have to move to Weatherford because the drive would be too much for me. It would be probably close to two hours. My husband is not too thrilled about moving. He likes where we are but I am thinking about our future and I hear Weatherford's school district is good if and when we decide to have children. Plus land and houses don't seem to be as expensive like it is in my area. How long have you been a LVN?? I am curious to know your experiences as a nurse. Feel free to pm me!

My main concern is that so many people want to be a nurse and yet the schools don't let many people in the programs. And nurses now complain about not having enough nurses on shift all the time. But I know there has to be a good student ratio to teacher. There are not that many teachers left from what I understand. My great aunt used to teach nursing. She still works sometimes even though shes in her mid 70s. She used to love teaching but you can make a lot more money nursing than teaching nursing students. One time the nursing home in the town called her because the owner knew her and wanted her to come in for like a day since they were really short handed and the next day the owner delivered a $500 dollar check to her. It was out of his own pocket as far as I know but I was in shock! My great aunt lives in Bridgeport. My whole family on my mom's side and dad's side including extended family members lives in wise county so they would be glad if I moved to Weatherford even though its a good thirty minutes from them.And I have really heard great things about Weatherford.

So the state finally came in and cleaned house at the Bridgeport nursing home?? Thats great. My grandmother is a social worker and she worked there for a while but she left due to the bad situation. She would try to fix things that were really some of the nurse's job and she would get a roadblock in every possible imaginable way. It was really sad really. My grandmother was afraid to stay because things were really bad at one time and she was afraid she would lose her license. The only reason she stayed so long was because she had a resident that she had brought with her from south Texas when she lived there shortly after she remarried. The resident was soo sweet. I would go up there sometimes and visit her especially when she would ask about me. She died shortly after my grandmother left her job there. My grandmother would take some of the patients to their doctors, and well she took one patient to the doctor and I assume you know the highway 380, a lot of truckers get on that highway. Well one day she was driving one of the patients an elderly lady to her doctors because no one else would do it and there wasn't like a van or anything that I know of for the nursing home to use. My grandmother noticed that this trucker was about to get on the highway and started to move to the other lane to let him over and this vehicle wouldn't let them over. And I don't know if the trucker saw them or not I think he did and thought he could beat them. My grandmother was forced to go in the ditch to avoid the car being totally crushed and was side swiped. The trucker didn't even stop. My grandmother thankfully was able to get her vehicle out of the ditch. She asked the patient if she was alright and if she needed to go to the hospital and the patient said no that she was fine. It was the drivers side that ended up being swiped so my grandmother actually was hurt. Well the patient was so glad to be alive and just praised my grandmother for her quick thinking that she told her family and the family tried to sue the nursing home and my grandmother. The patient was soo upset about that. After that the nursing home faculty and owner became increasingly hostile to my grandmother to the point where she quit.

I just re-read your post TXspadequeen.. I didn't realize that the JPS program was closed. I was starting to think about just doing a LVN program then applying to Weatherford for the LVN to RN program since you stated in your last post that you would only be competing with LVNs. I may end up doing NCTC's LVN program then go to weatherford because NCTC's LVN to RN program has really stiff competition still and a waiting list. I mean I probably will be stiff competition as well because in high school I was basically a straight A student with the B in math. I would love to go to TWU's program but I can't afford it. But I would like to get a BSN or a degree to where I could probably teach nursing once I got too old to do bedside nursing. My husband is in school til this June and finally graduates but he had to get a big loan in order to qualify for them to even consider his application. Its a technical school. So we will be paying that off and paying off my father in law for that loan and I just found out a month ago that my father in law was the one to pay off my husband's truck and not my h usband himself. Oohhh I was madd.. So we owe my father in law about 30 thousand and I don't even want to think about my husband's motorcyle since I know my father in law bought that too. Plus we owe my mom a lot of money too but nothing near what we owe my father in law. We were fortunate to have parents that supported us in getting married because we weren't even 21 at the time. I just turned 21 about 7 days ago. They have helped us get started and I would like to say on our feet but haha. Thank god we don't have children. I can't imagine having five children like you do Txspadequeen!! But then again I was an only child. Oh well I am going back to doing some more research on LVN programs and just do an LVN to RN program when I finish the LVN program. Or I may just wait and go to Weatherford they don't seem to have as bad of a waiting list.
