Re: UTHSCSA spring 2010 hopefuls!
I'm doing a paper due tomorrow >.< haha, also I have a final Friday so sue me if i'm inaccurate.
Ok like I said I got into the accelerated program with a 3.3gpa and a 86 on the teas. I know of another girl in the class who got into the program with a 3.0 gpa so don't give up trying! I was rejected to my first school or choice so don't get discouraged!
I had no health experience at all. I've done like volunteer things at school for organizations but rarely were they health related. So I had no skills needed for working in the hospital.
I have a previous degree so the bulk of my credits come from UT-Dallas and the rest came from San Jacinto (a community college in Houston)
I think our Apps were due in July and My interview was in Novemeber? I think I got an email telling me about it in late October. So.. 3-4 months?
You take the TEAS the day of your interview. It's either before or after you don't get to pick. The test isn't bad at all its like the NET if you ever took that.
Honestly, I like the feel of being in the OR and having someone's life in my hands. Atleast I think so haha, if not my fall back is in peds because I love dealing with kids. This also probably stems from be wanting to be in med school and settled, but I enjoy nursing school none the less.
In my opinion nursing school is different for many people. In comparison to my undergrad degree I find that nursing school is easier (note I took o-chem, biochem, genetics, molecular cell biology, all the pre-med pre-reqs). Honestly as long as you put in the effort you will do fine.
Yes I get financial aid. Tuition for me is about 3600 a semester. Im from out of town and rent totals out to be another 3000 a semester. The rest is books, food, leisure, and unexpected expeneses. I take out about 11k a semester in loans. UGH it sucks haha.
Hope that helps :-) (also read the other thread for the fall of 09 class...it probably answers alot of questions you might have about the semesters and how our schedule looks like)
