UT Tyler RN to BSN Program

Hi, I am currently in LVN to BSN program at Uttyler. When I saw your post I went and got the flyer regarding the MINE program for Registered Nurses. According to this...your only requirement is your RN licensure...no experience needed. It looks like all classes can be completed via the web (cept clinicals) in 2 regular semesters and one summer if you go fulltime.....partime study is also an option. It does say you will need to complete an upper level elective to meet residency requirements but that this can be taken prior to entering the program if you like. There are some core curriculum requirements (english and such) and a few prerequisite courses just to be admitted to the nursing program that have to be completed (A&P, Nutrition and such) I would call and ask to speak to one of the counselors because there are a few things you HAVE to have to be here. I had to take Texas government because my associates degree was done in Oregon so I had not had that course. GOOD LUCK! and looking forward to more great nurses in East Texas!!

I am a graduated from the UT Tyler RN-BSN program. If things are the same, you can go into the program with any length of experience. I was enrolled in the program right out of my ADN program. The RN-BSN at UTT is geared toward people that are already working as a RN. I found this program very easy to complete. The only tedious thing is that the first year you have to take history and other pre-req classes.

Both the previous posters are correct, in that as long as you have your pre reqs/core requirements met, and already have a nursing license, you are good to go at UT. I too will graduate in May '09, and plan on heading to UT to go for my MSN. Some say to get it over with as soon after getting your ADN, other say wait a few years, but it is all up to you. In our case, with age being a factor (I say that cuz I am also 39!!) I figure it will be best to get it done as soon as possible, but if you want to take a few years to get some experience, that is fine also.

I hear ya about the trees! Just driving through west Texas to visit folks in New Mexico made me want to turn around to come back home. Don't get me wrong, south and west Texas have their own beauty to them, it is just a different beauty than the piney woods here!!

The NICU and PICU are great. I take it you have kids? Or at least love kids?!? They are working on getting the new NICU staffed and going there.

I work in the ICU's there at Mothers and love it. With the exception of Neuro ICU, that one takes a special person!! And I am not sure that it is me! But as for SICI, MICU and CICU, I love the actual job, the people and the experiences. Mothers has an excellant resident program for ICU that is one of the best in Texas. We have nurses from all over coming to take the program. Can't wait till next May so I can actually start as a nurse there!!!

I am!! Two more semesters to go....so that puts me right in the middle of just starting the program and being through with the program.
