Re: UT houston spring 2010 hopefuls
Hi! I'm so glad I found this forum! Well, I'll also be applying to the UTH school of nursing in the spring 2010 semester, and I just wanted some advice and maybe at least a spark of hope that I can make it into the program. I'm still a bit confused as to how I can get into nursing school efficiently; no one in my family has ever finished college here in the U.S. so I'm pretty much the guinea pig for my younger relatives and I need as much guidance as possible.
Anyway, I managed to maintain an overall GPA at San Jacinto College of 3.5 after the spring semester. I was told by a counselor at San Jac that I would get a better chance at getting into nursing school if I took my science classes at UH, but I didn't have that much money to support my way through those prereqs at UH. I managed to get a loan so I can finish taking Intro to Psych, Lifespan, Micro, Nutrition, and A&P I during Fall 08 at UH. However, when I spoke with an advisor at UH, he said that I could've taken care of all these prereqs at San Jac and receive as much credit as I would at UH. I was told by a San Jac counselor that if I reached over 90 credit hours, I would no longer be eligible for financial aid, which I already have so I chose to attend UH.
Unfortunately, since I chose all these classes at the last minute, I only managed to find the next available professors to teach those courses and they weren't the best. I got an A for Intro to Psych and Nutrition, B for A&P I and Lifespan, and a C in Microbiology (which I should've dropped but I wanted to get into nursing school starting Fall 09). So, after that downfall, I decided to return to San Jac and take A&P I, A&P II, and Micro (all with labs) during this Spring 09 and made all A's in those classes after finding amazing professors and worked extremely hard.
So, after taking those classes at UH and sending my San Jac transcript to UH, my overall GPA over there is currently around a 3.0. After finishing my spring semester at San Jac, I currently have a 3.5 overall GPA there (B in General Inorganic Chem I, and all A's in A&P I/II and Micro). Do you think that this will hurt my chances of getting into nursing school? Is there any way to make myself seem more competitive? I'm really nervous considering that I tried applying for Fall 09 but merely received a rejection letter. I really want to make a comeback and apply for the spring. Thanks so much!
