When i went we were all ( about 15 other people) sent into a room where we had to fill out a essay and we were given a sample schedule for the semester that you had to be prepared to discuss whether you can handle it to the interviewer. The lady who interviewed me was SUPER sweet and very easy to talk to , but you will BETTER than ever when you leave out of that room and go home!! haha!! I start there in the Fall so guess i did pretty well!!!!

Hello,

One more question please....what is the dress code for the interview at ut houston? casual/formal???

I think you should go like if you were going for a job interview. Remember they want to see that you can be a professional Registered Nurse and that you are very serious about your nursing career. Try something professional looking: a tucked in blouse, some "slanks" pants, closed shoes, hair neat....you know? Take a DEEP breath....and go relaxed and remember "You can do this!". Make sure you let them know that Nursing will be your priority and how you will do that. If you have kids, family to take care, work -FT/PT they'll just want to know how will you Juggle everything..

Hi lilywhite,

How did the interview go with UT? I recently interviewed there as well. Did they mention when you should hear back from them regarding a decision?

Good luck!!

I am applying for the Spring of 2010 as well and I see you guys are already getting interviews? I am confused. The application deadline is Sep 1st and I was under the impression they didnt begin interviewing until after all the applications were recieved. How are they determining who gets interviews when they havent recieved all the applications? Were you waitlisted from last semester or something? Just to clarify...the interviews you just attended in June are for Spring 2010? When did you have completed applications (transcripts, NET scores, etc) and from that time how long until you were contacted for an interview? I feel as though I am at a disadvantage or something because I am turning in my paperwork closer to the deadline due to summer school....should I feel this way? Please advise

Good luck!!

I interviewed on July 28th, there were just 6 of us. They said we should be hearing from them in aba 3wks. I still have not heard anything from them. I call twice a week to check on my admission status( must be very annoying but...)
The interview was great. Everyone spent less than 10min during the actual interview and there was only 1 faculty interviewing. Asking the usual questions...why nursing? why should we admit u?,when did u feel compassionate aba something?, any medical experience? some questions aba courses taken (hw many times u took a course and the grade)? be ready to discuss hw to handle the course loads in the semester.

I will be calling them soon.
good luck

Most of us were on the waitlists from the last application pool.

Hi lilywhite,

Thanks for your response! I interviewed there on June 15th, and there were only 6 of us there as well. At the time of the interview, they told us we should hear something back by the end of July. Needless to say, I have not heard anything back either, and the waiting game is so stressful.. I called there last week to check my status, and I was told that the committee had not yet made a decision and that they might meet sometime this week. Therefore, it is still not quite clear of exactly when we will hear back from them or when they will actually make a decision. It's good to know that I am not the only one who has given them a call to check on my status. I think I will be calling back soon if I don't hear anything sometime next week...

The writing sample is based on a medical situation to see how you are with your critical thinking. My situation was a 17 year old boy who is brain dead and his mom and stepdad want to donate his organs. How do you handle this? The interviewer asked me the following questions: Please tell me about you and your background. Why do you want to be a nurse? What is your definition of compassion? Give an example of how you showed compassion to a patient. How many times did you take A & P II? (Also some others but I'm drawing a blank right now). I would recommend that your dress code be business (when you mean business you dress for business!).

I just want to say to everyone who has recently interviewed with UT SON for Spring 2010 admission, check your Utlink status! The wait may finally be over.

I checked this morning, after checking everyday for the millioneth time and my status now says: You have been granted provisional admission. Admission letter in the mail.

I GOT IN!!!

It's like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I am sooo excited!

Good luck to everyone who has already interviewed as well as those who are applying, and please update when you find out about your acceptance!
