UT-Austin FNP program

Hi all,

I have been reading this forum now for months and I just can't seem to find the information I am looking for, so I FINALLY signed up and decided to make my own post! Okay, to the point, I am a senior nursing student at Texas Tech and will be moving to Austin once I graduate in May. I plan on applying at Seton (Cedar Park or Downtown) in October. My ultimate goal is to go to UT for their FNP program. You have to have two years worth of experience before you can apply, so it will be awhile. I was wondering if anyone out there knew anything about this program, what I can do in the two years to increase my chances of being accepted? What is the average GPA for people accepted into the FNP program (I currently have a 3.5 and plan on keeping it that way)? Has anyone been through the FNP program and would like to share some thoughts? Is it a lot harder than BSN? As you can see I've had a lot of questions building up for awhile... so I will let y'all ruminate on this for a little while. Any help would be deeply appreciated!

hmmm...

Do you have enough time to get your 2 years experience before 2011? I am not exactly sure when it goes into effect, but NP is going to be post doctorate. I'm pretty sure that starts in 2011. Sorry to be the bubble buster...

edit*** oh yah... you better start applying NOW for seton. They are currently on a hiring freeze and there are TONS of local austin graduates who are vying for their next round of the Versant residency program. All new gn's and those with <1year experience are required to go through this program.

There are a few hoops in applying for the versant program. You will need 2 letters of recommendation, a personal essay and you have to "apply" for the GN position in order to even get called back by the versant recruiter. Good luck in your endeavors!

Thanks!!! So, according to my instructors it does not turn doctorate until 2015... that's why I am wanting to make sure everything is perfect so I only have to apply once! I have studied up on the Versant program... when is the next round of Versant hirings? Do you know who I should contact in terms of hospital staff that could also help. This is the first time for me to go through this process so EVERYTHING is new. Thanks for your help, I really do appreciate your reply!!!

Oh that is great news on the NP program. Maybe i won't give that dream up. Maybe it's masters by 2011?? I can't remember why 2011 sticks out in my head as far as advanced practice nursing.

Cindy Ford is the coordinator for seton GN / versant program. If you pm me, i'll try and dig out her email address. I still haven't done my personal essay. I ended up accepting a position in san antonio, but i haven't started yet and we are getting close to october.

October is the next cohort for the versant residency. Good luck!!

just leave a visitor message, with your email address on my profile. It is illegal to post email addresses in the forums.

So I think the forum is restricting the things I'm allowed to do since I'm new...and I guess visitor messaging is one of those things. So if you could leave your email on my page, maybe that will work? I am really sorry about all of this, but if you leave me your email I can then email you. Thanks again!
