I think they call everyone with the minimum GPA and NET score for an interview. I think they interviewed around 400 people for my class. Also I would recommend going to an information session if you haven't already done so.

Hi everyone, thanks for the great posts regarding UT Houston. I was just about to post myself. I'm in the same boat, I'm attending LoneStar to get my pre reqs out of the way, but I won't be able to apply until 2011. I considering applying in the fall next year in order to get in for the Spring 2011 class, but I'm wondering if I should space out my classes a little more so that I can give myself the extra time to study and make sure my grades stay up. I was also considering applying to TWU at the same time, but I have the same issues with the math courses. I am taking Math 0308 this summer then Math 0310 later in the fall or following Spring semester. But I say that TWU makes you have 6 hours of math requirements if you take the psych statistics course, and I don't know if your remedial math courses count towards that. I'm planning on taking the psych statistics as well so that I don't have to go through an additional math course.
What did you guys take for your extra elective courses? I just got accepted to the pre professional program at Lone Star and one of the classes I have to take is an honors psych course so that will count for one course. I had thought about just taking an art course that might be fun, but do you guys suggest any courses that might be helpful?
I also wanted to know how many of you that were accepted have volunteer experience? I contacted the Texas Childrens hospital about their volunteer program. Thought it might help out.
Thanks in advance.
Have a great 4th!

I took art an art class for the visual and performing arts elective, I took interpersonal communications as an elective, and College Algebra counted as an elective (I took it after I took statistics which counted for my math credit). As far as the volunteer work goes, if you don't have a medical background in your work history, you pretty much have to have volunteer or shadowing experience. I had both, but my interviewer was much more interested in the shadowing. I would HIGHLY recommend trying to find somewhere to shadow an RN or even better, several different RN's in different areas.

Hi there, thanks so much for your post. I would like to take a ceramics class for my visual/performing arts credit, if they accept those types of classes. And I would really prefer to take the psych based stat class, but at this point I am trying to work it out so that I can apply to both UT and TWU. The only difference is if I apply to TWU I have to take 2 extra math courses and then take the stat class on top of it. So I'm debating on whether it is worth going the extra mile to be able to apply to both schools.
I got accepted this coming fall semester for the pre professional program at Lone Star and they have a bio class that in essence is a course that allows you to shadow someone in your medical field for the semester, which I think would be a great asset. I also contacted the children's hospital downtown, but I was told they're starting a new application process for volunteers and they won't have the application period until August.
I'm going to contact my advisor at LoneStar and see what it takes in order to be able to do the shadowing bio class since that would look good on my app. How do you go about getting other opportunities like that or is it pretty hard to get the hospitals to even acknowledge you unless you're already in a medical field? Is it worth going through those cna courses? Thanks for your help!

I have several friends who are nurses and they worked it out so I could shadow them. If you know any nurses, ask them, or ask around to friends if they know any nurses.

Hi rachelerin!

Congrats on getting excepted into UT Houston. I'm getting ready to apply and I am getting nervous. I'm scheduled to take the net in a couple weeks, and wanted to know what you made on the NET? I have a 4.0 Science Gpa and pre req is somewhere around a 3.8, I have heard the reading section of the net is really hard, is that true?

My NET score was somewhere in the mid to upper 80's...I can't remember for sure. The reading section was harder than I thought it would be, but not terrible overall. Good Luck taking the test!!
