TWU - Weekend Program Fall 2009

Greetings All,

I did a search for the Weekend Program for TWU and couldn't find any results, so I took the liberty of creating a thread on it.

How many here are applying? I wanna see what I'm up against. I can't seem to find any information on it besides the one on TWU's site

-Has anyone here graduated/in the program right now?

According to the Nursing Coordinator Katie, approximately 30 spots will be granted. She said that since the last class was taken two years ago, the GPA's and test scores are outdated.

Well, I'm still far behind in my prerequisites, I'm shooting to finish 30 hours by September 1. Thought I would get some input from Fellow Texas nurses/aspiring nurse.

Best of luck! but not too much ha

well obviously since your handle says that lol. sorry. but i havent heard too many people applying to this program or anything. what does bump to the top mean. have you taken those courses at twu, because if you take 32 hours at twu, you will get a .4 added to your gpa for admission purposes.

I am applying there in September as well. I am finishing up Micro and Chemistry this summer. I have a BS degree in psychology. Katie told me the GPA gets competitive around a 3.5, but is usually higher. This is the first time they have used the HESI, so who knows on that. I would guess you need to be up in the 90's range. I really hope I get in because I can't afford daycare to go to school during the week (SAHM). Good luck everyone. Hope to see you there ;-)

I too am applying to the weekend program. Have you all completed the HESI exam? I am coming from the accounting world and hopefully into nursing. I started down the nursing path and started a program up in IL. I was happy that TWU transfers all your pre-req classes. I do need to take Stats over the summer. I have not yet signed up for the assessment exam. I was hoping to have a bit of time to prepare. Anyone have suggestions on the best tools to prepare? I seriously need to brush up on my chem, A&P...I would love to hear if anyone has taken it and how "painful" it really was. And is it realistic to score at least a 75?

I am hoping to apply to this program as well. I still have to finish a year of pre-reqs though, so will be doing that in the Fall/Spring semesters. I plan to apply in Sept. 2010 for the Spring '11 class. It seems so long from now!

Also, I noticed that PrettyLadie had mentioned a GPA bump for students who have taken 32 hours of pre-reqs @ TWU. It's a little confusing, because that IS how it reads on their website currently (consideration given to students who have completed 32 hrs at TWU...) when you're on the WEEKEND RN section.

But on the FASTRACK section, it still reads that the .40 GPA bump is issued to students who have completed 16 hrs of pre-reqs @ TWU, for post bacc students. I called to verify, and they confirmed that to be true....that for traditional students, it's 32 hrs. For post bacc students - weekend or fastrack, it's "just" the 16 hrs.

I asked what would happen hypothetically if you were a post bacc student who applied to the weekend program, but didn't make it....would they still give you the .40 bump in considering you for the traditional 2-yr program as a Plan B, and she said yes.

Question Re: TWU - Weekend Program Fall 2009
Does anyone know how many applicants and number of available slots the TWU weekend program has? Is it a little easier to get into because it's for people with a BS or higher in something else?

Thanks,

Dave
