if they are starting to look at only the first grade for the sciences, i'd be really happy! I worked very hard at A&M to get good grades in my science courses the first time around and i'm glad my efforts will be rewarded. It is unfair that they implemented this mid-cycle though. sorry to those that it hurts.

I'm right there with you ladies, I'm applying Sept 1 for Spring enrollment. I've gotten most of my pre-reqs done except Microbiology which I'm currently taking at TCCD and then I'll finish up the summer with A&P II with a professor at TWU I really like. I take the Hesi on July 10th. I've already taken the NET, just for fun and made an 85 which was really good. I too have talked to **** at TWU and he told me anything above a 75 was reasonable. Also yes, anything less than a 3.9 needs to be worked on if you want to get into the Dallas campus. I'm thankful that I've been able to take my classes there (even though it cost alot) and I get to take advantage of the .4 added to my GPA.

Now here's my question, are you ladies at all worried about getting a job when you get out? I keep hearing from areas on this board about nurses not being able to find a job and I'm wondering what is going on. I've already been in the working world for 20 years and have a B.A. in Economics/Finance and an M.B.A., I'm not going through this program for my health. I want to work toward a Nurse Practitioners masters program as quickly as I can, but can't get into any program until I've had a solid years experience. How can I get experience if I can't get a job?

You ladies have any thoughts?

Butterfly Journey -

On TWU's website it says that you cannot start the clinical portion of the master's program until you have a year of experience as a RN. (of course before you can be in the program you have to have GRE scores, GPA, etc...) I believe that you could just take lecture classes until you meet the time requirement. Just an idea in case you have difficulty finding a job right after graduation, which hopefully will not happen.

Hello everyone nice to see a thread for spring is started. I want to wish you all good luck. I was accepted into the program the 2nd time around at the Houston campus. The Dallas campus is very hard to get into. The cutoff was like a 3.9 last time and Houston was 3.6/3.7.

Rha Hea - thanks for the heads up. I didn't read it that way. I misunderstood and thought that you couldn't enter the program until you had a years experience. That helps alot. You've just made my day.

If the Dr. ***** you are referring to is ******, then you should be ok. I took A&P I and II at NCTC with her, and made A's. She is a great teacher. I really enjoyed her class, and I took both on Saturday mornings, so that says a lot! She is not easy, but she tries her best to help her students succeed. She understands how important grades are to nursing school hopefuls. :-)

I am also applying to TWU for spring 2010. I am so excited/scared/nervous too! Those of you who are applying to UTA and TWU - which is your top choice, and why? Have you already taken the 3 intro nursing courses that UTA requires? Or do you plan to take those in the fall? I had planned to apply to both, but didn't get my act together in time for the June 1 deadline for UTA. If I am not accepted to TWU for spring, I will definitely reapply for fall, and also apply to UTA. I am curious, though, on what anyone knows about the differences between their programs.

I was told by **** that a 3.8 was competitive. I hope that is true, bc I am retaking 2 classes this summer to bump me up to just over 3.8.

Good luck everyone! Hope to meet you all in January!

It's interesting that **** told you 3.8 was good and he told me not to fall below 3.9. I've heard him tell others different information as well. So I'm not really sure what to think about what he says sometimes.

BTW, ****** ***** is AWESOME. I took A&P I with her this past spring and I'm taking II with her this summer. You're right, she really cares. She's not going to give you the grade, but she will help you get there if you need it. I'd be interested in knowing what others who are applying to UTA think about the program. I live in Frisco and I'm thinking about applying there if for some reason I don't get in to TWU for the spring, but I don't know much about their program and I don't know where they actually do their classwork and clinicals. I know TWU is at the Dallas campus near Parkland hospital, but where does UTA do their classwork, on campus?

I think a lot of people freaked out last semester. They are now telling people to overshoot and do better than they need to. From current and past posts, I think a 3.7 and above is competitive.***** also confirmed this as well at the Dallas campus. She is the one who really handles all the info and has all the answers.

I've taken all of my core nursing prereqs (the sciences, stat, etc.)...the only one I have left is a political science in the fall. I'll be graduating with a BS in allied health in december of 2009, then hopefully nursing school after that. i'm SO excited i'm done with classes for fall 08/spring 09 (basically because i was taking anatomy and phys and so many other nursing prereqs)!!! GREAT feeling!

i was wondering how the NET and HESI A2 compare. Was one harder/easier? I know the sections are different (ie. more science on the HESI), but are they similar on the english/grammar/math parts?
Kimmy,
Hi there! I thought the NET and HESI A2 were nothing alike at all! I did poorly on the NET, but on the HESI, I did great. I don't know if it was because I prepared differently for it. I hardly studied for the NET, but for the HESI, I did for about 3 weeks and really researched it. Some people do really well on it and others don't. Don't know why that is??
