Is it true? No waitlist at El Centro?

Yes, it's true. No waiting list. I don't remember the exact number of applicants and placements so please do a search on older El Centro threads in the pre nursing forum. I do know that your GPA has to be nearly perfect to get in.

Students have to reapply every semester to get in....When I started (Jan 04), there were something like 250 applicants and 70 got in, with a minimun gpa of 3.8 and all classes but the nursing ones complete. It's extremely competitive. It is not unrealistic to have to reapply at least a couple of times before getting in. Don't mean to discourage you, just being honest.

El Centro is just not wait list based, that doesn't mean it isn't competitive. But, if you can make a 4.0 on the pre-reqs (English, College Algebra, A&P I and General Psych), you have a good shot at getting in the first time you apply.

This may be what you are talking about . I think this is on a thread about Del-mar college and their online program. Someone replied to one of my post and stated that El-centro did not have any waiting list and they were looking for people for the program, but it was the LVN to RN program.
Most schools here in this are have no waiting list , you just keep reapplying. To be competitive in the run for nursing school most people do have a high GPA, but schools do consider other things for entry as well. Good luck to you

Some schools consider things like test scores and interviews. What I liked about El Centro is that they only use pre-req GPA to rank candidates (if there is a tie, then they use co-req hours and then co-req GPA if there is still a tie). Granted, you have to make a minimum score on the NET test, but beyond that, a better score does not help you.

While I believe in my interview skills, it is a bit unsettling to know that the rest of my life can change if an entrance committee doesn't like the color of my shirt! (Yes, I hope they aren't that tacky, but I have seen people denied jobs for less...) I was glad to find a school where my acceptance was based on something I have the most control over -- my grades.

Hi, I'm the one that stated that El Centro has no waiting list for the LVN to RN program. Let me re-iterate my post. I called and spoke to the Nursing department. She said that they only received about 20-25 applicants. All got in because there about about 20 - 25 seats...you still need to meet at least their minimun recommendations. Now 300 students may read my post then apply. And then you are back in the same situation.
