Are there any new or recent LVN grads out there?

Updated Feb 09, 2009 at 05:02 PM by Bianca'sDream

Hello everyone! I was considering applying to a LVN school here in the Dallas, TX area, and I was wondering if it was worth the time? While researching online I noticed that most of the jobs required 1 year or more of experience as an LVN...is it or was it difficult getting a job w/o any experience? I just don't want to waste time b/c I am taking pre reqs to go toward a BSN or ADN prog at the time. Any info will be greatly appreciated!!

Most nursing homes will hire anyone with an unencumbered license and they are usually staffed by LVNs. If you want to work in a hospital, hospice, home health, agency or dr.'r office/clinic many times you do need some experience.

Many of the nursing homes in DFW are so desperate for nursing staff that they'll hire any warm body with a license, regardless of the lack of experience. Some nursing homes in the area do not even conduct urine drug screening or thorough background checks during the hiring process because they do not want anything to interfere with you getting hired.

I am a new LVN! I just passed my NCLEX Tuesday. I have worked in dialysis for 3+ years, so I am going to stay here for now. It fits me pretty well; I love the fast-paced action I get to see!
