Texas Ranked 3rd Lowest In The Country For Health/medical Care !

Did any of you read, hear about, see on t.v., the report last week that ranked Texas 3rd lowest in the country ? I could hardly believe it. I think they said Mississippi and Arkansas, or was it Mississippi and Oklahoma tied for 1st and 2nd lowest positions, and Texas was third.................. Mon Dieu !

This is feasible, so I can believe it...

Take a close, hard look at healthcare in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. The quality of care is horrendously compromised by dangerous staffing ratios, patient overcrowding, and a dire shortage of healthcare professionals in that region. In certain border towns, it is common for 1 med-surg nurse to care for up to 20 patients. Realistically speaking, how can you provide superb care to 20 patients in an acute care setting?

Texas ranked No. 51 in access to care, No. 46 in quality of care, No. 48 in avoidable hospital use and costs, and No. 24 in healthy lives, an indicator that considered factors such as infant mortality and cancer deaths. http://www.statesman.com/news/conten...ashealthc.html
