Texas LVN Licensure?

by TheCommuter Staff

Hi, all!

I graduated from a California LVN school on October 14 and am moving to Fort Worth within a couple of weeks. I am currently studying on a daily basis to take the NCLEX; however, the licensure process in California takes forever. I probably won't hear anything from the California state BON until mid December.

I am asking for licensure advice. Should I just wait to take the NCLEX in California and have Texas endorse the California license? Or should I apply for initial licensure in Texas since I am going to live there anyway?

In addition, how quickly could I take the NCLEX in Texas if I were to get the paperwork started today? Is the licensure process in Texas faster than the snail's pace processing that seems to occur in California?

Just graduated LVN school in July. We sent in our initial paperwork in May - fees for NCLEX and fees for the license. We graduated in mid-July and was given our temporary permit. I received my "Authorization to Test" at the end of July. Scheduled NCLEX 1st week in August and had my results 2 days later.

If you're not planning on working in CA then don't even bother with obtaining licensure there. You can apply for TX licensure and even take the NCLEX in CA before you even move.
If you apply for CA licensure and then endorse into TX, it will not only take more time than if you just applied for TX licensure to begin with, but you will also be wasting money on licensure fees to CA when you aren't even going to use a CA license.
