Tarrant County College waiting list?

by 8mpg

Well, Im finally getting around to going back to school. Its been about 2 years of hard work, but I think Im back in the financial situation I can afford to go back to school. I have about 44 hours of college under my belt with many withdrawals (90ish total hours)... BUT, Im going back.

Anyways, I have been very excited about this whole school thing and am going back in January regardless of if I can even get into the nursing program...I have plenty of pre-requisites to take (well, maybe 7). Im hoping to have almost all my classes done by the end of summer II.

Enough with my story.. Is there a waiting list at TCC? Im really worried that I will be wait listed forever. My plan is to get my ADN and keep going to school while working. I shouldnt be way to far off from getting my BSN.. While working and finishing up my BSN, I get experience then I would like to get into a PA or CRNA school.

So...is there a wait list? Im going Tuesday (have a Dr. appt so I can miss work anyways) to the Northeast campus to talk with a counselor...just to excited to wait.

Thanks
Tim

The South Campus is the only TCC location that offers the nursing program, so perhaps that's the place where you may wish to receive your counseling session. It's just a friendly suggestion.

I believe you have to reapply at TCC yearly if you are not accepted the first time around.

Nursing program is on the South Campus and there are no waiting list. You must reapply every semester....good luck

I'm waiting to find out if I've been accepted for the Spring 2008 nursing program...my suggestion to you would be to talk to a counselor at the South Campus where the program actually is they would have a better sense of the nursing program, that's not to say that the counselors at the other campus don't know what is needed for the program though.
Like the other posters have said there is no waiting list, you have to reapply each semester...the alternate list is the only "waiting" list that TCC has. Hope this helps!

Best of Luck

Thanks...

Im have 9 classes to take as prerequisites and I should hopefully finish them by end up Summer II '08. Im praying that I might get accepted into the Fall of '08 nursing class...if I dont, I might get my LVN and keep taking classes to get my ADN, then my BSN.

How soon do you need to apply to the school? Im worried taht my last 4 classes wont be counted towards my points on the application in the fall.

Thanks again

One thing about TCC is your classes must be complete and not in progress.

The deadline for TCCD's Fall 2008 nursing program is Jan/Feb (can't remember the exact date). In order to apply you have to have completed Anatomy/Physiology I and Biological Chemistry.

I wanted to apply last month to try & start in the spring, but since I won't be done with those classes until December, I couldn't apply.

It's very competitive (approx 400 applications for 100 openings) and from what I hear, most people who get in have ALL of their pre-req's completed. I know it can be discouraging, but you have to start somewhere!

When I apply in January, the only classes I will have left to take are A&P II and Micro. Since so many applicants will already have their 4 science classes completed, there's a good chance I won't get accepted.

I'm prepared to apply again in the Fall 2008 with all my pre-req's finished, so that I can start in Spring 2009!!! It seems soooo far away & like many people, I may find myself with an entire semester "off" while I wait to start nursing school.

I could try to take some classes towards my BSN but you have to be careful there as well. If I wanted to (for example) get my BSN at UTA there are certain courses I would need to take. But if I get my ADN from TCCD and then later go for an RN-BSN program, some of those classes (req'd at UTA) may not be necessary (since I'll already be an RN). So make sure you know the requirements for the program(s) you are thinking of going for so you don't take classes that you don't end up needing.

Hope this helps!

The next application period will be January/February for a Fall 2008 start, it will begin Jan. 1st and the deadline for all paperwork to be in will be the last day of Feb., like the previous poster said you need to have Chemistry, A&P I and math completed before you can apply. The 4 classes you have not completed will not be counted, they only count the classes you have completed, you will compete better if you have all of your sciences completed and most of your other general education classes completed. It never hurts to apply the worst that can happen is you don't get in this semester so you apply again in the Fall. If you go to www.tccd.edu/nursing there is an information packet that you can printout that answers a lot of question I would recommend reading that info packet because it may help you answer more question that you haven't asked yet.

Hope this helps! If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask!

I took all my classes at the NE campus, and did a counseling session there. It wasn't much help. I had to go to the South campus to take a test for an online class, so I finally scheduled a session there. Honestly, I didn't learn anything in it that I didn't already know from reading the packet, talking to fellow students and reading these boards It all depends on how you learn best, I suppose!

Best of luck to you!

PS -- You might want to consider other programs. Requirements are different, and therefore some programs are "easier" to get into than others, depending on your strengths and how long you are willing to wait.

Im actually in the process of trying to get hired by Harris Methodist as a surgical tech. My neighbor works for them and is trying to get me in. They have a program with El Centro where HM employees get 40 slots per semester towards the accepted nursing class...If I get hired as a tech there, Im going to get into the class asap to get my education going. They pay for all the classes and I think there is a 1 year commitment to working with the hospital after you pass the exam. Either way its decent money until I start and I get into the medical field AND I get to go into surgeries
