San Antonio RNs,,, GN/Job Question

by AggieQT

San Antonio area nurses, I NEED YOUR HELP!!!

In April I will graduate from a BSN program in the Houston area and plan to relocate to San Antonio. I have been doing a ton of research on San Antonio area hospitals, and GN positions. I have called and left messages at what seems like ever HR Nurse Recruiter in the entire city, and have only been called back once. I don't want to be annoying, but finding a job is important.

My question is this, if you work in the San Antonio area, do you have any suggestions as far as people to contact so that I might get the ball actually rolling on obtaining a graduate nurse positions. I am really interested in L&D and ER, and have a background as a Pharmacy Technician and am a Certified Nursing Assitant.

Thank you in advance for your time and responses!!!

I was in the same boat as you. I was out of town, tried calling HR at a lot of the hospitals in town, and no one was getting back to me. I then sent e-mails to the nurse recruiters and just started applying for positions I wanted....I graduated in December, but started applying in October. I got phone calls to come in for interviews within a week, and got 2 offers on the same day I interviewed for 3 positions! I took a GN position at Christus Santa Rosa, where they have the best orientation program (Versant residency). Orientation is either 18 weeks, or 22 weeks if you go into pediatrics. Good luck on your search, it shouldn't be too tough to find a job!

I've had the same problem. Just send in your resume and apply for a job on the website you want.

Curlie - I actually have an interview at CSR this week. Any guidelines on salaries? The salary's range so differently city-to-city and I've been unable to find a good estimate for SA.

Thanks!

22 for GN's at CSR with the versant program to lock you in for 2 years, no sign on bonus, no tuition payback...nothing... the employees are all very nice, friendly and very helpful. People actually take paycuts to work there.

St Lukes is giving a sign on bonus for GN's/ and I heard Methodist is paying more...who really knows anyways. Every HR is different even if they are in the same system of hospitals.

Just thought I would add in that Methodist is not paying more. They were at a career fair last week and told me they were paying GN's 20.50. Good luck finding a job. Hopefully when I graduate in December, I will be able to work at Santa Rosa. Seems like the best bet to me.

I just wanted to add that I am not locked in to a 2 year contract at Christus, maybe this is something new they are deciding to add? I've been working at Christus since January and I love it! As far as I know, they are still hiring new grads in all departments, and people graduating in May are interviewing now. Good luck!

I actually received two job offers and accepted the one with CSR Children's. HR said they are thinking about the 2 year sign on, but its not official yet. I am really excited and can't wait to start working!
