Hi everyone,
So many of you were so helpful a year ago when we were looking at relocating to the Ft. Worth area. May I bug you again? We ended up moving to PA for a well-paying position for my husband that has required more travel than we seem to enjoy  It is a great job, minus that one aspect. Anyway, we are getting serious about TX again. I found a house on the internet ($114,000) that is in Saginaw. The neighborhood is Heather Ridge Estates addition and the elementary school is High Country. Does anyone know anything neg. or pos. about either? If we moved, hubby probably wouldn't work (he has military pension) and I would need to work full-time. I have been a nurse for about 12 years and currently make $27.50 base. Would that be possible to make in that area? I'm not a critical care nurse. For those of you that are familiar with the area, are people generally friendly and welcoming? I visited the area last year to look at houses and everything seemed to be very family oriented. Are there any other areas we should consider? We would like to keep the cost of the house as close to $100,000 as possible. We can live with a min. of 1400 square feet. Greatly reducing our expenses is critical to hubby not working  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!!!!!

Oh yeah.......Wanted to ask about property taxes and utilities. Do they vary quite a bit based on location? We currently live in a $231,000 house, property taxes are about $2700 yr, state and local income tax totals 4.07% (and that might be raised). The benefit is that our total utility bill (all electric, water, sewer trash) can vary between $68/month up to about $200/month. Any comparison would be appreciated. Thank you!!!!!!!!!

my best friend lives in saginaw and they love it there! the school district is supposed to be great, better than the ft worth school district. it is great but you the convience of being out of the city a little but then really the citty is still right there! hope this helps. i know that they would never live anywhere else!

Your realtor should be able to request utility bill and tax information on the property your're considering.

Saginaw, until very recently, used to be a farming town with many cow pastures. The town has evolved into a desirable, booming suburb filled with brand new subdivisions and schools with stellar reputations. Saginaw is served by the Eagle Mountain Independent School District, which is supposed to have some of the top schools in the Fort Worth area. Saginaw is 12 miles northwest of downtown Fort Worth, but 60 percent of Fort Worth's growth is taking place in the Blue Mound/Saginaw area (zip codes 76179 and 76131). Another positive aspect is that you will be near Eagle Mountain Lake.
My coworker lives in a nice, newly constructed house in Saginaw that they purchased for $125,000 from the DR Horton home builders. Her property taxes are $3,100 yearly, but her mortgage is a reasonable $825 per month. Her only complaint is that fact that she has to drive to Fossil Creek or Lake Worth for shopping. Expensive property taxes are a fact of life for Texas homeowners. My property taxes are $2,900 yearly.

HI I live in Saginaw! I would love to know about other nurses in the area!
I love the area!!!!! My husband lived here when it was a small farm town, so here we are! I love the area, it is definitely growing. Lake Worth is now booming with stores and restraunts(sp?). Hope you decide to reside here!
Also any ideas where an LVN can find a good job? I am currently employed, the job itself is great, but I could do without the politics! =) I left a wonderful floor position after I had my daughter, due to long hours and lack of childcare. So here I am!

My husband and I lived there about 8 years ago just before the big growth spurt. At that time it was a small town. You have a community college in your back yard and a hole in the wall Mexican restaraunt called El Sombreo. It was our favorite eating place. They had a train and grain festival and if I remember correctly was in October. You have Main street that runs north from down town Fort Worth. I think what my husband and I miss most about Saginaw was going to sleep with the train sounds and our good neighbors. Like I said Saginaw has changed alot in the past 8 years.

I'm still a student so can't tell you about pay rates, but I live in Saginaw (technically I am on the Fort Worth side, but right on the border of Saginaw. We love it. We are walking distance to a great park and an easy drive to Lake Worth for shopping, dining, etc. We don't have kids yet, but there is a new elementry school 2 blocks away and our subdivision has 2 community pools! As far as hospitals, you are about 15-20 minutes from North Hills Hospital and the HEB area, or 20-30 from the ones in downtown Fort Worth (Baylor All Saints, JPS, Kindred, etc.) I usually give myself 45 minutes to get to clinicals, but always get there early, especially if you stay off the interstates and keep to surface roads. If you are inclined to work in Dallas, it is about 20 minutes to the train station in Richland Hills then a 40 minute train ride to the medical district. (We also have clinicals in Dallas!) Oh, and I hear they are planning to build a mall in the Fossil Creek area which is just minutes away. We came from Louisiana 5 years ago and love it here - it's a good place to call home!
