Rusk Mental Facility

Does anyone know where to get more information on this hospital? or the town? I have looked into it and have decided that is where I eventually want to work. Mental health has always fascinated me and I can't find any subject material on the hospital.

Any info would be great, also what experiencies have you had with mental health? I would love to hear about them.

I'm not in Texas, but I know that around here, there are vistor centers with more info than you could ever want. Try calling the chamber of commerce. There could be a website as well. As for hospital info, you can probably arrange a visit. I don't know if you're a student or graduate, but either way, it shouldn't be a problem to at least meet with someone. You might even be able to volunteer there, or at least shadow a nurse for a day. I know the hospitals here are thrilled when someone shows an interest in psych.

About 7 years ago I worked as a medicare reimbursment nurse and traveled Texas. One of my facilities was in Rusk. Rusk is a very small town on Hwy 79 in East Texas. I remember there was nothing there and I had to go to Jackson the next town over to get a motel for the night. There are several Places of interest for mental health here in Tx another one is in Vernon this is on your way to West Texas North a hour or so North of Abiline. When I worked at JPS as a nursing student; I can remember the really mentally ill patients being sent to Vernon. If I can think of anything else i come back and post.

When I was in nursing school, we worked at the Rusk Hospital for a week. It was great. I would have worked there when I got out of school, but I moved to far away yo drive...anywho... It would be a great place to work. And actually it is located on Hwy 69, not 79. There are 2 hotels in Rusk that you could stay in, and I think it is a quite little town that I love to live in.... I know for a fact that they have a sign up now that they are hiring Rn's, and they are always hiring LVN's and they just opened a new unit. The website for job openings is https://rm.accesshr.hhsc.state.tx.us...7-431b08f314e8

Hope this helps...if you have anymore questions, contact me

Well i work for one of the state hospitals down here in Kerrville, Tx as an LVN...I love my job. It seems that someone has beat me to the accessHR website where u can browse job openings. Down here and probably all state hopsitals, all nurses, LVNs and RNs go through a 30 day New Employee Orientation thats 8-5 M-F. Upon completing that u have 5 more months for your probation period. I work nights and my average down here around $15 per/hour. At Rusk, the pay maybe more or less. I just looked at accessHR job listings and could not find any openings. We have an opeing down here in Kerrville... anyways just keep looing you might find a job opening sometime.
