RN Wages at Harris Methodist

by jchRN

Hello texas nurses. I was just offered a med-surg position at Harris Methodist dt. They say the starting salary is $19/hour base pay. That seems kinda low. Do you think I should request a higher base pay or is this standard for the area? I am a new grad and have no hospital experience. Thanks for all your replies. -Jojo

It does seem low even for TX. I did the Calgary to Ft. Worth thing years ago. I worked on their rehab floor. Fun.

Real estate, rent is real cheap in TX.

From what I've heard, $18-20 an hour is about right for base pay for a new grad.

That is on par within a dollar or two of what new grads are getting in Dallas - Dallas typically pays a little higher than FW so I'd say thats pretty on target.

I am a new LVN grad who earns $18.50 hourly in Fort Worth. It is quite laughable that LVNs and RNs are paid almost the exact same wage in the DFW Metroplex despite the educational differences between the two licenses.

FYI, new RN grads in the DFW Metroplex are typically paid between $19-$22 hourly.

It may be laughable now - but with a few years experience, the RN will be earning significantly more.

What I am hearing from the new grads at school is about 18 west end of DFW, 20 to the east end. I have not heard 22 unless someone was including a shift diff or critical care differential.

My coworker is an RN-BSN with 6 years of experience who earns $23 hourly. That's not significantly more than what I'm currently earning.

Default That's very much in line with most hospitals (more)
in the area for a new grad. When I was interviewing (18 months ago), the THR system, of which harris is a part of had the lowest starting pay per hour, but their shift diffs were better, so it pretty much equaled out. My opinion is that if the position is what you're looking for, the location is what you're looking for....you'll make the money work for you! Good Luck.
