Relocation from Michigan to Texas

Hello everyone, I need help with relocation. I'm coming from a big city Detroit, Michigan. I've been visiting for the last few years, just left Killeen and Odessa for the New Year. My question is, I've visited Dallas (DeSoto, and Houston) loved both, but which would be the the better of the two to live? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I have family in both and they all rave about both places, but for nursing, which would be the better place for a nurse.

I live in the Dallas area. I'm a nursing student, so I cannot speak to actual working environments, but the job outlook and pay is awesome compared to the cost of living. However, I grew up in Houston, so I looked around there, and things are fairly comparable for nursing (as far as I can tell).

good luck

I personally would stay away from Houston. The traffic sucks and the crime rate has been way up over the last year. I always liked the DFW/Arlington area.

I live in Fort Worth, which is 30 miles west of Dallas. Fort Worth has over 600,000 people and manages to maintain a laid-back, small-town feel.

The only setback to Dallas-Fort Worth is GroupOne, a consumer reporting agency that has the tendency to blackball nurses who are seeking hospital employment. I have heard that GroupOne is highly exaggerated, but it is something you might want to look into. Good luck on whatever decision you end up making.

I used to teach school in DeSoto, so I am familiar with the area. Personally, I would choose Houston or Round Rock before I chose DeSoto. Houston has a lot of traffic, but there are some nice areas to live around there. Also, it is only about an hour from the beach in Galveston. Round Rock is nice because it is so close to Austin and San Antonio. There are so many things to do around there. It is also in the hill country, so there are lots of blue bonnets around. It is beautiful in the spring and summer. If you are interested in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area, you may want to check out some other nearby communities such as Arlington, Plano, etc. I live in Arlington, and I really like it. It is right between Dallas and Ft.Worth, so you are close enough to enjoy what both cities have to offer. The DeSoto area would be on the bottom of my list as far as places to live in Texas. There are a lot of areas around Dallas/Ft.Worth that are better to live. That is just my opinion, though. Good luck with your search.
