Questions for TWU-Houston students

Hello,
I just applied for TWU-Houston Spring of 2007 and I have some questions for those of you who are already going to school there. Any and all advice would be greately appreciated!

1. What do ya'll do for transportation to and from school: Metro bus, electric rail, car pool or do you drive in to the medical center and park? What works best? (I live on the NW side of houston @ Barker/Hwy 290 area)
2. Are all of the classes offered during the day or are there some classes that are only offered at night? Looking at past schedules it seems that Pathophysiology is only offered during the evening or in the summer.
3. What do you think of the new building?
4. Are all of the clinicals in the med center or do we have to drive to other facilities in the greater Houston area?
5. Regular back pack or rolly back pack? What works best?

Thank you so much for any tips/advice/pointers. They are all greatly appreciated

(I live on the NW side of houston @ Barker/Hwy 290 area) The first semester I drove from Baytown...after that I moved so I just take the rail because I live on it. Or, you can park behind Sam's where AstroWorld used to be, pay $2 a day to park, and ride the rail.
2. Are all of the classes offered during the day or are there some classes that are only offered at night? Looking at past schedules it seems that Pathophysiology is only offered during the evening or in the summer. Only during the day. Patho is 5-9p on Thursdays I believe. I'd take it in the summer and get it out of the way because the first semester is pretty stressful if you have it then.
3. What do you think of the new building? I LOVE IT except we can't eat in the classrooms and there is no technology in some of the classrooms yet. It's still kinda under construction but at least we have more than 1 female restroom per floor now!
4. Are all of the clinicals in the med center or do we have to drive to other facilities in the greater Houston area? Some are in the med center. I've had mine in the med center every semester, but there are others in Sugar Land, NW, SW, etc. however, for communities, you will definitely be driving somewhere. Mine were in Spring Branch.
5. Regular back pack or rolly back pack? What works best? Leave your books at home if you can and bring a regular one. I fought witha rolly for a semester and it was annoying.

1. I was at an apt. which had a shuttle to the med center. Very handy. Many people I knew personally who commuted did ride the bus.

2. They are offered during the day. Patho was indeed offered in the summer during the evening.

3. It looks very nice

4. No, they are NOT all in the med center--you may very well have to do some driving (I sure did!). Clinicals are chosen lottery-style.

5. Ug, tried the rolling backpack and hated it. Too cumbersom for bumps and curbs and stairs, etc. Definitely a regular backpack.

Good luck!

If that is somewhere in the Cyfair area then I would recommend taking Northwest park and ride or the one of off Little York. I would pick the closest one. Then I would try and meet people from class that live in that area in case we ever need to carpool. I mainly take the park and ride.

2. Are all of the classes offered during the day or are there some classes that are only offered at night? Looking at past schedules it seems that Pathophysiology is only offered during the evening or in the summer.

All of the Nursing classes are offered during the day. Patho, if I am not mistaken starts at 5pm.

3. What do you think of the new building?

I don't really like the location of the new building because its on a busy street. Plus the bus does not stop infront of it like it did with the old building. The new building does have more restrooms. They made some changes to keep the new building clean by no eating or drinking except water.

4. Are all of the clinicals in the med center or do we have to drive to other facilities in the greater Houston area?

not all clinicals are in TMC. For instance, for communities, you might have clinicals in Magnolia, Spring Branch, Cy Fair or in Downtown.

5. Regular back pack or rolly back pack? What works best?

When I was a Junior I i bought a rolly back pack and put my books in there. But then I didn't do any reading in the school so I just left my books at home and got a regular back pack. If you want to carry your books or heavy items in school then you might want to invest in a locker.

Yes, they allow PDA in clinicals and classroom; yes they allow laptops in the classroom. This semester we had a guy bring his laptop every day for class and in post clinicals he used his laptop to do a power point presentation on gastroschisis.
