What is TPAPN?

I had something come up on a criminal record from over 7 years ago when I applied to a job. I have had background checks before and nothing ever came up before. The employer rescinded the offer for employment. I spoke to the director of hiring and he said if I could take care of the matter, they would reconsider. The biggest thing was because I had not indicated anything on the background check form. I told them this was the first I heard of it.

Anyway it is now being taken care of but will remain on my record for life. All I need to do next time I fill out a background check form is to indicate what the offense was for and when and that it has been taken care of.

What a nightmare for me though. I am not a criminal.

Debbie - Are you a nurse? I would hope that no nurse practicing in Texas would ask what TPAPN is. If you are not a nurse, I would be happy to explain although you could probably get better information from the BNE web site.

As for helping out a friend - sometimes your friends are not who you think they are.

I would hire an attorney who has experience in dealing with the board - and until then jsut go along with whatever they tell you to do in terms of tpapn - the board isnt there to help or protect you, nor should they be. It stinks to find these things out the hard way.

Wasn't trying to be rude - I apologize. Just wanted to make sure because TPAPN is something that is covered in every nursing school and under the nurse practice act. I'm sure you are very familiar with all of that in your home state.

TPAPN is the Texas Peer Assistance Program for Nurses. It is designed to help nurses who are substance abusers or who have mental health issues which affect their practice. A nurse can be mandated to TPAPN by the BNE.

I think most other states have similar programs, but they all operate a little differently.
